West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Lucas Digne to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a claim by Pete O’Rourke, who revealed in a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT that David Moyes will be considering a move for the Everton left-back this month, as the 58-year-old Hammers boss is looking to bring in greater depth behind the injured Aaron Cresswell.

In relation to West Ham’s potential interest in Digne, O’Rourke said: “I’m sure they’ll be looking at him if they are looking for a left-back. I know in the summer, they tried to get a left-back to provide cover to Cresswell. Obviously, that need is heightened even more now with Cresswell’s injury.”

Considering just how impressive Digne has been for Everton in recent seasons, the news that West Ham will be considering the possibility of making a move for the France international this January is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful buzzing.

Indeed, over his 30 Premier League appearances last time out, the £27m-rated defender was in remarkable form for the Toffees, helping his side keep nine clean sheets, registering seven assists and creating a whopping 11 big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.6 key passes per game.

The 28-year-old also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of one interception, 2.1 tackles, 2.4 clearances and winning 6.5 duels per fixture.

Furthermore, with Digne and Rafael Benitez’s relationship believed to have broken down, it has been reported that the Toffees manager would be willing to part with the left-back in the current transfer window, as long as an offer of around £25m is lodged.

As such, not only would the former Barcelona defender make an excellent addition to Aaron Cresswell on the left of Moyes’ backline at West Ham, a deal for the 43-capped international would also appear to be one that the Hammers board could easily afford – something of a win-win situation for the East London side.

After a decent start to their Premier League campaign, West Ham United have stumbled in recent weeks with just one win in their previous six top-flight games.

With the January transfer window opening in a matter of days, journalist Paul Brown has dropped a claim on a potential piece of business that the Hammers could look to execute as they aim to end the season in the top four of the Premier League table.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown was discussing the possibility of West Ham making a move to try and sign Sparta Prague striker Adam Hlozek, with whom the club have been linked in recent weeks, in the upcoming window

He said: “It might be that kind of profile they look for. Yeah, I could see that. That kind of transfer being one they do more than [Andrea] Belotti or a [Anthony] Martial who would cost a lot of money and expects to play every week.”

As a product of Sparta’s youth academy, Hlozek has gone on to make 111 senior appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 33 assists along the way, which is very impressive considering that he’s only 19.

Even though he may not have the experience of the likes of Belotti (238 appearances for Torino) or Martial (268 appearances for Manchester United), the teenager has still shown what an exciting goalscoring prospect he is.

Fans could be buzzing

With West Ham having signed the likes of Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal and Alex Kral, all of whom come from the Czech Republic, Hlozek could be the next in line to follow in their footsteps and become a potential future star at the London Stadium.

If West Ham were to sign the teenager in January ahead of the likes of Martial and Belotti, the youngster could be just what the Irons need given how Michail Antonio hasn’t scored since their 1-0 win over Tottenham back in October, especially if the Czech youngster can hit the ground running in a goalscoring sense.

Moving forward, with January around the corner, the Hammers should definitely explore the possibility of signing Hlozek to see if he can relieve the scoring burden on sole centre-forward Antonio. A coup like this would leave the fan base buzzing, not least when looking at the 19-year-old’s excellent scoring record.

Carl Hopkinson reached his century on the final day at Edgbaston as Sussex’s rain-hit match against Warwickshire ended in a draw. Hopkinson was 64 overnight – and Sussex on 276 for 4 – and he carried on to reach 119 after losing his partner Luke Wright for 71. Andy Hodd remained unbeaten on 59 and Sussex declared on 429 for 8 with a first-innings lead of 22. Warwickshire lost opener Ian Westwood early but Ian Bell, who failed in the first innings, scored 55 to steer the hosts to 97 for 2 at the close.1st day
The bowlers ran amok at Old Trafford as Worcestershire first collapsed to 172 all out followed by Lancashire’s crumbling to 119 for 8 at stumps. The damage was done largely due to swing and pitch inspector Mike Denness was happy with the surface. Sajid Mahmood and Kyle Hogg took three wickets apiece as Worcestershire were hindered by a steady fall of wickets. Steve Davies’ 39 and Vikram Solanki’s 35 were the top scores of the innings and Worcestershire lost their last eight wickets for 101 runs. Lancashire fared worse, their out-of-form batting order ripped apart by Michael Mason and Ashley Noffke. Mal Loye’s 24 is the top score of the innings so far and Mason took the lion’s share of the wickets – 5 for 19 – while Noffke claimed 3 for 42. Mason’s first over went for 14, but his next 13 went for a miserly five as he trapped three batsman leg before and claimed two through edges into the cordon. It will be up to Glen Chapple, unbeaten on 22, to take the hosts as close as possible to Worcestershire’s total.An unbeaten century from James Hildreth took Somerset to a position of strength – 368 for 6 – at the end of the first day against Hampshire at Taunton. The visitors also had to content with injury problems as they lost Nic Pothas to a groin strain and Sean Ervine took a blow on his finger in the slips. Pothas’ injury meant John Crawley had to take the gloves before Tom Burrows, the second eleven keeper, arrived. The batsmen picked up easy runs at at Northampton as the match between Northamptonshire and Derbyshire meandered to a draw. Resuming on 371 for 4 on the final day, Derbyshire soon wiped out their deficit and reached 502 for 9 before declaring with a first-innings lead of 69. Wavell Hinds was dismissed for 148 after adding 15 to his overnight score but James Pipe scored a brisk 63 off 70 balls. Northamptonshire’s openers added 98 in the second innings with Stephen Peters scoring an unbeaten 64 while Ben Howgego was dismissed for 36. The hosts reached 104 for 1 before stumps.Hashim Amla displayed all his class during a match-saving 181 at Chelmsford, an innings that secured a draw for Essex after Glamorgan had begun the day well-poised for victory. Amla, resuming his innings on 44 with Essex still trailing by 183 with six wickets in hand, hit 26 fours in his innings as the visitors paid for dropping him at short leg on 78. Amla and James Foster added 142 for the fifth wicket, a partnership that cut the deficit to 89, before Foster was bowled by Jamie Dalrymple for 64. Glamorgan’s small opening was slammed shut by Ryan ten Doeschate, who forged a 153-run alliance with Amla, one that gave Essex the lead. Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan were the only batsmen to pass 20 in the Middlesex innings: Morgan was caught off O’Brien for 30, while Malan remained unbeaten on 67. Leicestershire’s batsmen didn’t fare any better and the trouble started at the top when Steve Finn trapped opener Matthew Boyce for a duck and they crumbled to 53 for 5. Opener Josh Cobb, continuing the form that brought him a double century for England Under-19s last week, held up one end with an unbeaten 65 and was aided by Tom New was they added 73 for the sixth wicket. He was dismissed by Shaun Udal shortly before stumps as the visitors ended the day on 137 for 6.Several Surrey batsmen got starts but only two – Michael Brown and Mark Ramprakash – converted them into half-centuries as the hosts ended the first day against Kent on 342 for 8 at at The Oval. Surrey made a solid start after choosing to bat with their openers adding 105 before both Jonathan Batty and Brown fell in quick succession, leaving the score 114 for 2. Ramprakash was as solid as ever but missed out on his 107th first-class hundred when he was caught in the slips when Justin Kemp found some extra bounce. Before Ramprakash’s dismissal, Surrey were comfortably placed on 255 for 3 but they slipped thereafter to 275 for 6 as Kent’s bowlers chipped away. After Usman Afzaal fell for 46 off 133 balls, Surrey progressed to 329 for 6 before James Tredwell struck twice to dismiss Chris Jordan and Alex Tudor and brought Kent back into the match.

According to a report by Birmingham Live, the government’s recent decision to take all countries off of the UK’s red list for foreign travel has handed Bruno Lage’s side a significant boost regarding the centre-forward’s availability, as the 30-year-old will no longer be required to quarantine upon his return from international duty with Mexico.

Gerardo Martino’s side are due to face Panama in World Cup Qualifying next February, a fixture which, prior to the recent changes, would have resulted in Jimenez having to quarantine for 10 days upon his return to the UK. Noffke ended his 11-year association with Queensland a day after being “stunned” that he was not guaranteed a place in either of the state’s limited-overs teams.Talks between Noffke and Queensland Cricket on Wednesday night could not stop the allrounder from taking up a two-year deal with the Warriors. “It’s been an extremely tough decision to make, one that I never thought I’d have to,” Noffke said. “But at the end of the day the Warriors have offered me an opportunity to play in all forms of domestic cricket and that’s all I was asking for. This was never about money.”Noffke, who is playing county cricket with Worcestershire, was more focussed on pushing for a return of the international honours he achieved with Australia’s one-day and Twenty20 teams in 2007-08. Last season was disrupted by a hip injury that required surgery and the Bulls wanted him to concentrate on staying fit for the four-day competition.”I’m obviously extremely disappointed that I won’t be pulling on my maroon cap anymore, but I’m also very thankful to the Warriors for the confidence they’ve shown in my ability,” Noffke said. “I certainly intend to repay their faith in me.”Queensland refused to alter their policy and offer more than a one-year contract to Noffke. Graham Dixon, the chief executive, said it was disappointing to lose Noffke after the state made its best offer.”We spoke with Ash again last night and explained to him what our plans were for him,” Dixon said. “We reiterated that the Sheffield Shield competition was our focus for him and that he did not feature in our plans for Twenty20 cricket, but we were open as to his future in the FR Cup. We are sad to lose Ash as he had been a strong contributor for a long time.”Noffke claimed 242 Sheffield Shield wickets for the Bulls in 68 matches, putting him eighth on the state’s list, and scored 2430 runs, including two centuries.
