West Ham fans react to Nathan Holland’s accolade win

Having been nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for the second time in a row, Nathan Holland has won the accolade, as reported by West Ham United’s official channels.

In November, the winger produced four goals and two assists, helping the U23s to continue their undefeated league campaign.

This has seen him move to second in the league in the goalscorer rankings, with the award adding a bit more shine to what has already been a successful month.

Many fans have been congratulating him for winning the award, feeling that he deserves it, having been one of the academy’s standout players this campaign.

This is indicated by the fact that he has got a very impressive nine goals and six assists from just 11 appearances.

The accolade, on top of last month’s nomination and the number of goal contributions made all indicate just how effective he has been for the U23s.

This has even seen him get into Manuel Pellegrini’s squad for the Premier League, making substitute appearances against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal.

It is a pretty encouraging sign for his confidence in the step-up that he has made a combined three dribbles from 31 minutes, completing all of them.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….

This direct style of play has helped make him a popular choice to play for the team more regularly, with one fan demanding they “get him in now”.

In other news, FFC has identified a Hammer who could have a vital role to play against Southampton.

Real Madrid are good enough to survive Luka Modric’s potential departure

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Luka Modric has been a crucial part of Real Madrid’s squad for quite some time now. But it seems that Los Blancos are preparing for a potential goodbye in the not so distant future, if the reports coming from fichajes.net (via Calciomercato) are anything to go by.

The report claims that Modric could be on his way out of the club in June 2020, and the likes of Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba are detailed as potential replacements.

Even if that were to happen, Zinedine Zidane shouldn’t be too worried.

On the chalkboard

The 34-year-old Ballon d’Or winner is one of Real Madrid’s key players.

Even though this season he’s had a smaller role in the team’s ventures due to some injury issues, Modric is still a big presence in the squad.

Last season, the midfield maestro ended up playing 48 games across all competitions for the Galacticos, scoring four goals and assisting further eight under his belt in the process.

And despite Zidane’s troops not having the best of years in terms of silverware, seeing how they only managed to secure the Club World Cup trophy, Modric was still the heartbeat of the team, as he usually is.

But since he is 34 years old now, time is slowly but surely catching up and these reports of his potential departure don’t really come as a surprise anymore.

The best thing, however, is the fact that even if he were to leave, Real Madrid have more than enough firepower to weather that storm.

Changing of the guard

Looking strictly at Real Madrid’s squad, they definitely seem set for the near future.

Modric is undoubtedly a big and central figure of Zidane’s team but seeing how there are many young, up and coming stars waiting to take over the mantle, the 34-year-old’s potential departure is not something Los Blancos should be dreading.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

The recent resurgence of Federico Valverde, who made another statement to the club with his display in the Champions League last month, and the unbelievable strike-force they have on loan is reason enough to be quite optimistic.

Martin Odegaard, Dani Ceballos and Takefusa Kubo are just some of the names that are bound to light up the Santiago Bernabeu once they make their returns to the Spanish capital.

But even if we disregard that, Toni Kroos is also ready to assume the role of a leader in an event of Modric’s potential departure.

The German is still just 28 years old and his displays are proof enough he has what it takes.

We also shouldn’t forget James Rodriguez, another returning ace who’s looking to finally make it at the club, and players like Isco and Marco Asensio, who also might have a say in the matter.

All things considered, Real Madrid look well covered and prepared for the moment Modric calls it a day.

The changing of the guard is inevitable but the Galacticos are more than ready to embrace it.

Real Madrid fans react to Luka Modric being called up for Croatia again

Luka Modric has just returned from another injury, his second one of the ongoing 2019/20 season. This time it was just a small bruise but it still meant the Croatian midfielder would miss two games in the span of eight days he was out of commission.Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Needless to say, the absence of such a key man is always a big thing for Real Madrid.

But now he’s back and before he could even don the royal white of the Galacticos, he got called up for Croatia’s upcoming two upcoming international games that will take place in November.

Upon hearing this update, many of the fans couldn’t believe he was going away once again because this season the 34-year-old has spent more time playing for his national side than he has for Real Madrid.

Currently, he tallied 246 minutes for Los Blancos since the start of the season and 337 minutes for Croatia.

Of course, this will balance itself out as the campaign goes on but many of Real Madrid fans were simply not happy that he’s spending so much time away from his club and, by doing so, risking further injuries.

Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane addresses the issue with Luka Jovic

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Luka Jovic was one of Real Madrid’s big summer scoops, but despite his successful stint at Eintracht Frankfurt prior to the big move, life in the Spanish capital hasn’t been that dreamy for the young Serbian.

Zinedine Zidane finally addressed the issue in his latest press conference.

What did he say?

It took Real Madrid a reported sum of £53.2m to land their 21-year-old target and lure him away from the jaws of the Bundesliga where he was definitely thriving.

Jovic managed to net 27 goals and assist seven more in the 48 games he played for Eintracht Frankfurt across all competitions in the 2018/19 campaign so Los Blancos’ interest wasn’t really that much of a surprise.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

What was a surprise, however, was Zidane’s reluctance to actually play the Serbian and give him a proper chance. As a result, he only tallied 218 minutes across seven games for the Galacticos so far in the ongoing season.

For that reason, the Frenchman was asked about his “demotivated” outcast by the press.

Here’s what he said in full:

“He’s not demotivated. He’s just arrived and he’s looking much better now than when he came in. He’s slowly learning Spanish and becoming part of the group. I will be counting on him and he’s important despite the fact he hasn’t played much recently.”

Not done yet

Zidane’s words will definitely come as a relief to Jovic, and to any football fan who enjoys seeing young talent thrive.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

His situation is a strange one, as even though he is presumably a bet for the future since he is very much at the beginning of his career, Real Marid’s recent rumoured transfer targets and preferences in the market have put the Serbian’s transfer under question.

After all, why would the club be on a lookout for a new striker to replace Karim Benzema if they already have one within their ranks?

Still, Zidane seems to believe there is a place for the young forward in this Los Blancos squad and just by stating the 21-year-old is important should at least give the Jovic fan club some hope.

By all accounts, he is not done just yet and his chance might be coming in the near future.

All he has to do is be patient.

In a vote run by fan engagement experts, Snack Media, the Liverpool defender won with 44% of the vote, beating Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who finished in second place with 17%. Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mahrez’s team-mate, Kevin De Bruyne, both took 14% of the vote, while Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira and AFC Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson grabbed 7%.

In the first of five divisional votes carried out over nine days via Snack’s digital and social networks and supported by top-flight football clubs and the press, it was evident that the Cameroon international’s impressive performances – in which he helped the Reds take maximum points last month – have resonated with football fans up and down the country.

Tottenham star Son Heung-min hailed by pundit Danny Mills

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Former Manchester City and England defender Danny Mills has raved about Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min, per Football Insider.

What’s he said?

The South Korea international played a major role in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the weekend, providing a constant threat on the break with his pace and trickery.

He won the penalty from which Harry Kane scored his side’s second goal but Mills believes that the 27-year-old, who netted 20 goals in all competitions last season, remains “underrated”.

He said: “He’s a fabulous player, I think he’s massively underrated.

“His quality, his ability, his discipline and his work rate are absolutely exceptional, he very rarely lets you down in any way, shape or form.

“Yes, all players miss chances and have off moments but overall, the way that he plays – his energy and enthusiasm – his effort for the team is incredible.”

A phenomenal asset

Spurs’ attack would not be the same without Son.

A brilliantly multi-faceted player, the attacker is capable of scoring all types of goals, as well as taking on players, beating them, while also winning it back on a regular basis.

He adds pace and dynamism on the left flank and is also capable of playing through the middle, particularly if Kane is absent.

Mills is right to draw attention to the fact that he is not seen as one of the elite talents in the Premier League.

The fact is though; he should be.

Arsenal’s decision to sell Nacho Monreal before Spurs clash is ridiculous

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

As confirmed on Arsenal’s official club website, Nacho Monreal has joined Real Sociedad on a permanent transfer.

What’s the word?

The Spain international joined the Gunners from La Liga side Malaga in January 2013, and made 251 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.

The versatile 33-year-old spent the majority of his Arsenal career at left-back, but provided able cover as a centre-half too.

Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Unai Emery started Monreal in the Gunners’ first three Premier League games of the season, but his departure means he will not play a part in the north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Timing

Just one day before one of the biggest games of the season for the club, and the Gunners have opted to confirm Monreal’s exit. The timing is bizarre to say the least. The Spaniard had been an ever-present for the north London side and was trusted lieutenant of Emery’s following the manager’s arrival last summer.

The 33-year-old is reliable defensively and would have undoubtedly been a safer option against Spurs than Sead Kolasinac. For all of the latter’s qualities going forward, chalking up seven Premier League assists throughout his career, his style of play comes with big question marks about how he does going back towards his own goal.

Couldn’t the Gunners simply have waited until the north London derby was over before giving the green-light to Monreal leaving? Reports claim that Sociedad are paying just a minimal amount to take him back to Spain, and so a move collapsing due to a possible injury would not have robbed Arsenal of big-money. Instead, they would have stood to gain on the pitch.

Monreal could have helped lead the side to victory against Spurs, before waving goodbye to the Emirates faithful. But because of some questionable decision-making, the Gunners head into the game without their best left-back.
