Levy must think about bringing Van Beek to North London

Many Spurs fans may already be wondering about what kind of players Daniel Levy will bring to the club’s new stadium this summer, with a new era possibly bringing about a lot of success.

However, one player whose future is currently under the spotlight is Christian Eriksen as his contract is set to run out in the summer of 2020, and his agent reportedly told ESPN (via HITC) that he is not interested in entering contract negotiations or discussing a move elsewhere until the summer. And, Sky Sports claim that the Dane is currently earning just £70,000 a week at Spurs, so his future isn’t looking bright in North London.

So, Daniel Levy should already be weighing up potential replacements for the attacking midfielder, with Ajax’s Donny van de Beek being of interest. Indeed, Spurs have reportedly (as per Calciomercato) added the Dutchman to their summer shortlist, with his recent performances in the Champions League justifying their interest.

Indeed, Spurs fans will be well aware of Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League but they may not be so familiar with the way in which they were dumped out of the competitions. Van Beek played a crucial part in the second leg at the Bernabeu as he found the back of the net and constantly linked play in the final third.

Surprisingly, the attacking midfielder was once dubbed as ‘the next Christian Eriksen’ (as per Calciomercato, via Sky Sports), and it’s safe to say that he’s already showing that he can reach a similar level to the Dane. Also, he has the creative spark and the finishing ability to thrive alongside Spurs’ current stars, with 12 goals and nine assists thus far.

So, with Spurs reportedly set to play their first game at their new stadium next month, it’s safe to say that Van Beek could definitely get Spurs’ new fortress rocking next season as he has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and the ability to create a moment of magic out of absolutely nothing.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, do you think Van Beek could replace Eriksen?

Aston Villa fans disagree over Alan Hutton testimonial

[ad_pod ]

Alan Hutton will see his contract with Aston Villa expire this summer.

And there are question marks over whether he will turn out for the club again when considering that he could miss the rest of the campaign through injury.

Indeed, Hutton picked up a knee issue in the early stages of Saturday’s clash with Stoke City.

According to Villa boss Dean Smith, the injury is not as bad as first feared, but he will miss ‘a number of weeks’, which could mean anything really.

Smith hopes to have the Scot back before the end of the campaign, but that is far from certain at this stage.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

The 34-year-old has played 33 times for Villa this season and 201 times in total since arriving at the club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2011.

The Villa fans have been on social media discussing whether the defender is deserving of a testimonial.

And it would be fair to say that many have differing views on the situation.

Tottenham join the chase for Birmingham hotshot Che Adams

[ad_pod ]

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have joined the hunt for Birmingham’s in-form hotshot Che Adams, along with a number of other clubs who have taken a keen interest in signing the Championship marksman.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Adams is currently enjoying the season of his life right now, and his form has not gone unnoticed.

The 22-year-old has hit 19 goals in 29 Championship starts so far this season, as well as recording three assists, with his form a large reason for Birmingham’s unlikely push for the play-off positions – they are just seven points away right now, with plenty more games still left to play.

Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal along with Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in signing the English forward, whilst Burnley and Southampton saw bids rebuffed for Adams in the January window and Celtic and Watford have scouted the goal machine recently (as per The Mirror).

Do Spurs really need Adams?

Given the fact that Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t made a single signing over the last two transfer windows, one would only assume that there isn’t too much money to spend at the club – the debts from the construction of the new White Hart Lane may also be a contributing factor.

In that respect, the aforementioned TEAMtalk article states that Birmingham want £20m for Adams, which could be a lot for Spurs right now. Is it really worth splashing that much on a player who will only be used as Harry Kane’s understudy?

You may argue that Pochettino needs another forward, but we have seen by Heung-min Son’s blistering form and Fernando Llorente’s resurgence in the absence of Kane that there are plenty of players at the club who can step up in a time of need.

Perhaps any money afforded to Pochettino by Daniel Levy should be spent on a new right-back, as all three of Kyle Walker-Peters, Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier have failed to nail down a place in the team on a consistent basis.

Ready to contribute: Aston Villa fans react to Keinan Davis return

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa attacker Keinan Davis made his first Championship appearance of the season in his team’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the weekend, Davis’ only first-team football this season arrived when he was handed 18 minutes against Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup back in January.

It has been a frustrating campaign due to injury, but the 21-year-old now seems ready to play his part for Dean Smith’s side between now and the end of the season.

Davis has played on 38 occasions for Villa’s first team – scoring three times – and is not exactly a newbie, but the team have been unable to call upon his services for the majority of this campaign.

The Villa fans are certainly excited to have the attacker back in action, however, with many taking to social media to reveal their views on the former England Under-20 international.

Jannik Vestergaard gets news he would have been dreading as Rashford set to start

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed in his Southampton pre-match press conference that Marcus Rashford will “probably start” on Saturday, and the news will leave Jannik Vestergaard sweating.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the England international picked up a knock against Liverpool last weekend but given they made three first-half substitutions against the Merseyside outfit, the 21-year-old still stayed on the pitch for the entirety.

He was unable to start against Crystal Palace in midweek but was in the 18-man squad and did feature from the bench for the final 13 minutes of the 3-1 win.

Ahead of the Red Devils’ clash with Saints at Old Trafford, Solskjaer says the explosive attacker is ready to take his place on the team-sheet.

The Norwegian told manutd.com: “Rashford is fully fit now. I’ll probably start him.”

Bad news for Vestergaard?

It certainly might be, as he would have been looking forward to potentially only having to deal with Romelu Lukaku, who he is perfectly suited to given his height and lack of pace.

While the Denmark international has improved significantly since manager Ralph Hasenhuttl arrived at St Mary’s in December, there is no doubt that his lack of speed and agility means he can suffer against players like Rashford.

In the reverse fixture in December which proved to be Mark Hughes’ final one at the helm, the 26-year-old struggled as the young forward ran rings around the south coast outfit’s defence, providing two assists as well as being clattered by the giant centre-back on the right-hand side in the 51st minute.

Given Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the 3-1 win against the Eagles the likelihood is that Rashford will either replace Diogo Dalot on the right of a 4-3-3 system with Alexis Sanchez on the left, or he will partner the Belgium international up top.

Whichever happens Vestergaard will be sweating to come up against an unpredictable and quick player he simply isn’t built to effectively defend against, and he will need help from the likes of left wing-back Ryan Bertrand.

West Ham could surprise everyone by signing Onana

West Ham put up a good fight at the Etihad yesterday as they only conceded the one goal against Manchester City, which will be sure to please Manuel Pellegrini.

David Gold and David Sullivan made a number of big moves back in the summer transfer window, and it appears as if they have their sights on another possible swoop at the end of the current campaign, as according to De Telegraaf (via Hammers.News), West Ham United are interested in signing Ajax’s Andre Onana.

Onana, who is valued at £25.2 million (by Transfermarkt), has established himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe this season. And, it’s understood (as per De Telegraaf, via HITC) that Ajax want £30 million for the Cameroon international.

Indeed, Gold and Sullivan can surprise everyone by securing the services of the shot-stopper in the summer transfer window as the likes of Barcelona, Spurs and Arsenal are also interested. Of course, the Hammers can make a big statement by pipping a number of big clubs to the signing, and the 22-year-old has the potential to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers, so West Ham would secure themselves a special player.

Lukasz Fabianski has turned out to be the signing of the summer for West Ham United but he turns 34 in April and Adrian is now 32, so it’s safe to say that the Hammers need to bring in a young goalkeeper with the future in mind.

What do you think West Ham United fans?

Greedy! Liverpool fans bemoan Mohamed Salah’s selfishness against Fulham

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in annoyance after Mohamed Salah spurned a number of glorious opportunities against Fulham, chances that would’ve eased the nerves in the away end at Craven Cottage after a slender win.

The victory against the Cottagers puts Liverpool back to being just a single point behind Manchester City, with the Citizens yet to play their league fixture having been in FA Cup action against Swansea.

Jurgen Klopp has gotten quite inventive with his excuses this season. FFC’s James Jones think he has no one but himself to blame for Liverpol’s poor form in the video below…

The Reds are keeping the pressure on, but a noticeable aspect of their play in recent weeks has been Mohamed Salah’s lack of goals.

Amazingly, the Egyptian hasn’t scored for seven games, and against the Cottagers, the 26-year-old was visibly desperate to get his name on the score-sheet.

However, his personal pursuit failed, and in doing so, he appeared greedy and selfish at times where his teammates were better placed, much to the annoyance of Liverpool fans – his next goal will be his 50th Premier League strike for Liverpool, and he appears desperate for it.

Let’s see what the Reds supporters on Twitter were saying about their talisman’s barren spell and consequential selfishness…

Lawwell and Celtic would be silly to let go of Sinclair in the summer

After some difficult spells at the club, Scott Sinclair has been in the goals of late, helping Celtic to extend their lead at the top of the SPL table and progress in the Scottish Cup.

The 29-year-old, who turns 30 this month, however, might not be able to build on that next season as a Celtic player with his future at Celtic Park far from certain.

The Breakdown

The Scottish Sun reports Sinclair could leave the SPL champions at the end of the campaign with chief executive Peter Lawwell yet to communicate whether the option for a further year in his contract will be invoked.

As already mentioned, Sinclair has had some rough patches at Celtic since his brilliant debut campaign back in 2016/17.

However, the English winger is slowly returning to his best again and remains a player who carries a lot of threat in this Celtic attack.

Sinclair is, of course, lightning quick, while in front of goal he can be absolutely devastating on his day with his calm and composed finishing.

It is perhaps something Celtic supporters have not always seen enough of during Sinclair’s time at Celtic Park. That being said, it is still hard to describe the former Aston Villa man as being anything other than a success who is worth retaining.
