Weekly Wonderkid: Is New England Revolution teenager Noel Buck a future star for England or the USMNT?

The midfielder is at the heart of an international battle as he looks to prove himself in MLS.

Is a future England midfielder currently developing in MLS? Could a kid from Arlington, Massachusetts someday line up next to Jude Bellingham in the Three Lions midfield?

Meet Noel Buck, the midfield star who could go from New England to…. well, England. Buck is currently a rising star with the New England Revolution, one who finds himself at the center of a potential recruiting battle.

At the moment, he's tied to England, having played for the Three Lions youth teams. He's still eligible for the U.S., though, so Gregg Berhalter and U.S. Soccer don't have reason to lose all hope just yet.

Where will Buck end up? It's too soon to tell, but the Revs star certainly has the potential to go far whichever country he plays for on the international level.

  • Getty Images

    What he's done

Raised in Arlington, Massachusetts, Buck has been a rising star within the Revs Academy since joining back in 2017. He'd shined for the club's reserves before signing his homegrown deal in January 2022 and it's all been up from there.

He scored his first goal that September to become the second youngest scorer in team history, but his real breakout came in 2023. At just 18, Buck featured in 32 total matches for the Revs, establishing himself as an integral member of the squad despite his youth.

His international future came into focus last September, though. Buck earned his first call-up to England's U-19s, having admitted that England had shown him more attention than U.S. Soccer. The son of a British father and an American mother, Buck is still eligible to represent the U.S. and Wales, but, as of now, England has his allegiance as he moves forward for club and country.

  • Why he's here

If you're looking for a prototypical modern midfielder, it's Buck. He can contribute from a variety of positions and in a variety of roles, as many midfielders are asked to do in the modern game.

Buck is capable of playing as a six, eight or even out wide due to his technical ability. At 5'11", he also has a solid frame that will fill out even more as he gets older. He can also pop up with a goal or two as well as evidenced by his three goals last season, including this stunner:

  • Getty Images

    Who he reminds us of

Buck's father is a massive, massive Chelsea fan, so it's no surprise who the midfielder idolized all throughout his youth. Buck was raised on a steady diet of Frank Lampard highlights, and it's easy to see the influence the Blues legend had on his game.

These days, Buck also looks at another former Chelsea midfielder: Mason Mount. Like Mount, Buck is a midfielder who can make his mark in the attacking end, but is also capable of being a No. 8 if the system calls for it.

Can he reach the level of Mount or Lampard? It's way too soon to say, but you can certainly see those influences in his game.

  • What's next

Buck has earned interest from the Premier League, with those rumors beginning to fly after his run with the England U-19s. Tottenham have been among the clubs interested, but it's a safe assumption that clubs all over England are watching.

First, though, Buck will need to break back into the Revs XI. He's started just four matches so far this season under new coach Caleb Porter, who hasn't used the teenager as much as his predecessors. Can Buck earn his trust? It's a big storyline to watch, for sure.

If he regains that starting spot, it'll show plenty about Buck's character and development. Plenty on both side of the pond will be watching on as Buck looks to take another leap forward in 2024.

Newcastle eyeing move for new 27 y/o midfielder after Joelinton injury blow

Newcastle United are looking for midfielders to help fill the void left by Joelinton after his injury blow, with a "very good footballer" being lined up as an option.

Newcastle suffer Joelinton injury blow

The Magpies had big dreams going into the 2023/24 season, with hopes of another top-four finish in the Premier League, not to mention looking to go far in the Champions League. Instead, their campaign has turned into a huge disappointment, and while performances and results have often been nowhere near good enough, a constant stream of injuries haven't helped.

Newcastle have had so many important players missing for long periods of time, including Sven Botman, Dan Burn and Harvey Barnes – Sandro Tonali's 10-month suspension hasn't helped matters, too – and they are now having to make do without another key individual in Joelinton.

The Brazilian could even miss the rest of the season after suffering a groin issue, and his physicality and quality are set to be a massive loss in the coming months. In order to cover his absence, Howe may wish to delve into the transfer market, and one new potential target has emerged.

Newcastle eyeing Philip Billing move

According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are interested in signing Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing, as they look to make up for the big loss of Joelinton.

"Howe, who has transformed Joelinton into a Brazil international, rates him as one of his most influential players and his loss this season has seen Newcastle draw up a shortlist of midfield replacements. Mail Sport understands that includes Bournemouth’s Philip Billing, who Howe signed for the Cherries for £15m from Huddersfield in 2019. The Denmark midfielder, 27, scored seven times last season and is enjoying another fine campaign."

There are certainly similarities between Billing and Joelinton, given their tall stature and ability to dominate midfield battles in a physical sense, so he could be a shrewd addition by Newcastle in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has been hailed by former Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, with the now Wolves boss calling him a "very good footballer".

This season, the Dane has two goals and assists apiece to his name in the Premier League, showing that he can chip in with end product, but he has also averaged 1.5 tackles per game, highlighting his ability off the ball, too.

Billing may feel that this is the right time in his career to move to a bigger club, testing himself at a club like Newcastle, and it is easy to envisage him playing a similar role to Joelinton, possibly making him a tailor-made replacement.

At 27, he could well be experienced enough not to be fazed by such a move, but he also has enough time on his side to make an impact at St James' Park for a number of years, making this one to watch.

Klopp’s "special" Liverpool star could be more important than Nunez vs Arsenal

It's upon us. Liverpool's clash against Arsenal in the Premier League last today is probably the most important fixture of the club's season so far.

Having put last year's struggles behind them, Liverpool are back in the ascendancy and are challenging for the title, with the first-placed Gunners just one point ahead at the peak of the festive period.

Liverpool must bench £55k-p/w "game-changer" alongside Gomez

Jurgen Klopp most boldly keep this star from the starting line-up today.

ByAngus Sinclair Dec 23, 2023

Jurgen Klopp's side have been immense this season with a rekindled never-say-die attitude marrying with blistering offensive credentials.

At present, the Reds are nursing several injuries to key personnel and this will be at the forefront of Klopp's mind ahead of a glorious opportunity to take the lead in a compelling title race.

Liverpool team news vs Arsenal

Ryan Gravenberch is expected to be available for Saturday's clash after the suspected hamstring injury he sustained during last week's draw against Manchester United was put down to muscular fatigue.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Diogo Jota and Alexis Mac Allister, with the influential pair still a week or two away from returning to fitness.

Andrew Robertson will return to first-team training in the new year but remains out; Spanish midfielders Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are still long-term absentees and Joel Matip's season is over after rupturing his ACL against Fulham earlier in December.

Why Darwin Nunez must start at left wing

One player who will be expected to start is Darwin Nunez, with the fleet-footed Uruguay international impressing against West Ham United on Wednesday night having been shifted to the left wing.

The 24-year-old's goalless run stretched to 11 matches, concerningly, but he bellowed his worth to his manager with a creative and impactful effort, creating four key passes, succeeding with three dribbles and incredibly winning 11 duels.

Such a feat warrants another starting berth from the left today, replacing Luis Diaz, who has not been at his best recently.

It's important to note that while Diaz might not be in the richest vein of form, he is still a brilliant, mercurial winger with pace, trickery and incisiveness in abundance.

With reporter Charlotte Coates dubbing him a "game-changer" following his match-winning performance off the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the season, the £55k-per-week ace could be a valuable weapon against a rock-solid Gunners defence.

It's just quite difficult to discredit Nunez right now after such an effective display against West Ham, and this connection with Cody Gakpo, who will be eager to sculpt some impressive form after scoring in midweek, must be allowed to bloom.

Since Diogo Jota is still injured, this is the move to make as Klopp looks to leapfrog Arsenal into pole position for Christmas Day, with high-flying Aston Villa dropping points at home to Sheffield United on Friday night.

As per FBref, the Uruguayan ranks among the top 13% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 1% for shots taken, the top 2% for touches in the attacking penalty area and the top 10% for aerial wins per 90.

This is all a roundabout way of stating that he is the man for the job on the left, which will enhance the hosts' offensive fluency and ensure that Liverpool have balance in their probes against Mikel Arteta's backline.

Important he may be, Nunez might not be the key component this evening, with Curtis Jones surely in line for a starting berth after his midweek masterclass.

"Truly special" Jones' time to shine

Jones was one of the most influential players during Liverpool's late-season purple patch before the summer, starting all 11 of the final Premier League fixtures, scoring three goals and supplying an assist, and impressing with his distribution and composure in the centre.

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has previously claimed that Jones is "not good enough", but then the ex-Aston Villa striker could not be wider of the mark, with the industrious and intelligent midfielder proving to be one of the most underrated players in Klopp's squad.

But he has been excellent this season and has scored two goals and provided three assists across all competitions this term, and must now start after starting the past four league encounters from the bench.

The 6 foot 1 star ranks among the top 2% of midfielders for pass completion, the top 14% for goals scored, the top 5% for assists, the top 14% for progressive carries, the top 11% for successful take-ons and the top 16% for tackles per 90.

Very much the all-encompassing asset at the beating heart of Liverpool's system, Jones reannounced himself against the Hammers with two spectacular strikes, but while his innate eye for goal is a good tool for his side, it is the "phenomenal" level of his passing and ball retention that cements his standing at Anfield, as has been said by BBC Sport's Raj Chohan.

And it is because of this that he must start against Arsenal; Ryan Gravenberch is fit but does not seem to be clicking alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.

As per Sofascore, the 22-year-old complemented his two strikes with two key passes, success in both of his attempted dribbles and a 93% passing accuracy despite taking 89 touches, right in the thick of the action.

Curtis Jones.

With Wataru Endo likely to anchor the midfield in Mac Allister's absence, Jones has to start to counterbalance his Hungarian teammate's creativity, keeping it crisp and ensuring that Liverpool stay on top in a midfield battle against the sensational Declan Rice.

Described as a “truly special” talent by one analyst, Liverpool's chances of defeating Arsenal will only improve with Jones deployed from the outset, allowing the likes of Nunez and Salah to flourish further up the field.

It's a gargantuan contest, but it's one that Klopp and his squad will be confident of prevailing in, assuming the lead in the title race and pushing to establish a gap.

WBBL title run shows 'there's a lot of quality' around – Kirby Short

‘We’ve got used to winning, so it sucks when you don’t,’ says Ellyse Perry after Sydney Sixers relinquish their hold on the WBBL trophy

ESPNcricinfo staff26-Jan-2019

Brisbane Heat became the first non-Sydney team to win the WBBL•Getty Images

“Oh my god! What actually just happened!” Well, what happened was that Kirby Short had just led Brisbane Heat to the Women’s Big Bash League 2018-19 title. An outstanding achievement in itself, equally significant because it was the first instance of a team without “Sydney” in its name holding the trophy aloft.Sydney Sixers pushed hard, almost till the end, but the Heat rode on a heroic half-century from an indisposed Beth Mooney to pull off a three-wicket win with four balls in hand. For them, it was a matter of having a plan and sticking to it. On the day, it worked well enough.”Quality batters can choose which parts of the ground to hit it to, so our job as a bowling group was to take those areas away. Giving width to a lot of those girls hurts you. We were able to bowl more tight lines, more in to the wicket rather than full,” Short explained – that prevented the likes of Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry from getting under the ball and hitting it high and long.ALSO READ: How Beth Mooney beat the heat to win it for Brisbane HeatThat kept the Sixers to 7 for 131, Grace Harris doing the most damage with 3 for 23. Then it was over to Mooney. Two wickets fell early, but Mooney and Short added 84 for the third wicket. And when Mooney was dismissed for 65, after having done her duty with the help of ice, water, an inhaler and anti-nausea meds – “It could have got a bit messy,” Short joked later – the Heat were within striking distance, and got to the mark despite a clutch of wickets.”I plonked myself in the ice bath and was a bit nervous towards the end, I couldn’t really watch,” Mooney said afterwards. “They were pretty oppressive conditions out there and I haven’t been well the last couple of weeks, but I had a job to do.The Drummoyne Oval was packed for the final•Getty Images

“I was pretty hot and pretty cooked and the outfield wasn’t conducive to hitting boundaries, which wasn’t ideal, but even when the run rate got to 7.9 I thought really good cricket shots were going to win this game.”Mooney and Short kept the chase going, and even with Mooney down on her haunches a lot of time, they kept their focus on the job at hand.”The calm (Short) brings to the group and to help with my batting, we complement each other nicely,” Mooney said. “We talked about getting the run rate down as quick as we could, so that took my mind off how I was feeling… we managed to sneak a few twos towards the end there without my legs giving way.”For Short – “a person of words” by her own admission – the result left her at a bit of a loss, a little overwhelmed.”I needed a couple of minutes to compose myself, because it’s a feeling of so much happening around you but not feeling sure of what actually just happened,” she said.As for the bigger picture, Short said, “It’s really healthy for a competition when there are multiple franchises winning because it means there’s a lot of quality in a lot of places.”On the subject of the WBBL, and women’s cricket on the whole, being in better health now than before, Ellyse Perry, the losing captain, said, “Looking at that hill all day, the number of people that came, the interest in it, the way that it was covered throughout the week in the lead up, the fact that I am standing here in front of a pretty big group of people talking about it, shows how far we have come.”Ellyse Perry felt she didn’t take enough responsibility in the final•Getty Images

But on the field, Perry was left “bitterly disappointed”.”We just came up short with the bat, unfortunately, by about 15-20 runs. But the way we stayed in it till the end was superb and I’m glad we were able to give the crowd something to cheer about. I can’t take anything away from the way Brisbane played. They bowled really well, and then Beth’s innings, coupled with the partnerships she had, were just too good for us.”They had really clear plans and they executed them. We didn’t get a lot of bad balls to put away and we hit a lot to the field as well. There were a lot of overs where we got the ones but missed out on the boundaries. That cost us momentum. When we tried to put the hammer down – me particularly, I didn’t take a whole lot of responsibility today – I couldn’t pick it up when I needed to.”Perry had a fantastic tournament with the bat, hitting a tournament record 777 runs in 16 innings at an average of 86.33 and a strike rate of 121.21. In the final, though, she could only score 33 from 37, which meant she couldn’t “have one of those champion hats and the trophy again this year”. “We’ve got used to winning, so it sucks when you don’t,” she said. They are national team colleagues, and Perry was quick to laud Mooney for her innings on the big stage, calling it a blueprint for what her own batting unit required.”Her innings was a blueprint of what we needed to do, someone to strike it around 120 and being there for a long period of time. When we got her out, I felt we gave ourselves a bit of a chance. But at that point we were probably too far gone,” Perry said.”She’s incredibly good at finding pockets in the field, better than anyone else in the world at that, and she did that really well on a ground that had some shorter angles and boundaries.”

Wolves could sign a "monster" £25m Dawson upgrade

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a difficult season but certainly not a disastrous one, sitting seven points from the relegation zone. However, the biggest issue for Gary O'Neil's side has been the lack of consistency.

There is a lot of quality in Wolves' squad but there are some positions that may need to be improved upon in the near future if the Midlands club are to return to a position where they vie for one of the seven European spots in the Premier League.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O'Neil.

O'Neil is reportedly eyeing up some defensive reinforcements to bolster his backline amidst what will likely be a difficult second half of the campaign.

Wolves transfer news – Victor Nelsson

According to Turkish outlet Aksam, Wolves are interested in signing Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson in January. The report claims that the player is "very disturbed" with his current situation with the Super Lig champions and is looking for an exit route once the winter window opens in just a few weeks.

Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson.

The Danish centre-back's deal with Galatasaray expires in 2026, but Aksam have further revealed that O'Neil's side are exploring the possibility of a loan with an option to buy, although the Turkish giants are not willing to allow the 23-year-old to leave for cheap.

Nelsson has made 18 appearances for Galatasaray this term, including four in the UEFA Champions League as the team looked primed for qualification to the next round.

However, the defender has played merely 1,123 minutes, starting just seven times from 18 games in the Champions League group phase and the Super Lig, as per Transfermarkt.

Victor Nelsson's stats this season

Nelsson came from Nordsjaelland's esteemed academy in Denmark before moving to Copenhagen in 2019. It was with the latter that he made 87 appearances in all competitions and was labelled a "monster" by football scout Jacek Kulig after one of his displays at the Parken Stadium, having played exclusively as a centre-back for the Danish outfit.

Upon signing for Galatasaray in 2021, a £25m release clause was inserted into his contract, as confirmed by the club, and there has been significant interest in signing the defender from clubs in the Premier League, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, with Wolves being the most recent name thrown into the hat.

Head coach O'Neil has preferred to use a back three this season, with Toti and captain Max Kilman partnering the experienced Craig Dawson in the middle. With Toti and Kilman being 24 and 26, Nelsson could potentially be the long-term replacement for 33-year-old Dawson.

The veteran has had a decent season at Molineux but has struggled in recent weeks, particularly on Saturday in a 2-1 defeat away to Arsenal.

Dawson is still currently a better tackler than Nelsson but the Dane is outperforming Wolves' experienced centre-half in every other area, particularly on the ball which will become more and more important for O'Neil as he looks to adapt Wolves' system to be more expansive over time.

For this reason, Nelsson could be an excellent addition to the squad should they secure his services in January.

Arsenal could finally oust Nketiah for £20m "natural goalscorer" in January

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a host of talent ahead of the January transfer window, as Mikel Arteta and Edu aim to bolster the Gunners’ squad to enable another title charge.

Squad depth and a dip in performance were attributed to the north Londoners’ inability to deliver the Premier League trophy last season, with the same mistakes not wanting to be made this term.

From midfielders to forwards, Arsenal have already been linked with a list of high-quality reinforcements in preparation for the winter transfer market, with the right captures having the ability to fire those at the Emirates to their first title win since 2004.

Arsenal transfer targets – Marcos Leonardo

In terms of forwards, a report from 90min has this week speculated that both Arsenal and Manchester United are ‘on alert’ as Brazilian starlet Marcos Leonardo looks to be on the move in January.

Santos strikerMarcos Leonardo.

The report revealed that the Gunners have scouted the 20-year-old, with the striker having the potential to depart Santos this winter after the 2023 Brazilian football calendar came to a close.

90min relayed that the Brazilian side, who unearthed the likes of Pele and Neymar Jr, will demand a fee in the region of £20m for their talisman, making him a potentially exciting acquisition for Arsenal to monitor.

How Marcos Leonardo compares to Eddie Nketiah

With Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus being the only recognisable centre-forwards in Arteta’s current squad, it’s imperative that the north Londoners consider diving into the market for an upgraded forward in the near future.

While Jesus battles injury, Nketiah has seen his place in the XI usurped by winger Leandro Trossard of late, telling the tale of the Englishman’s lack of conviction in the final third.

Despite being a graduate of the Hale End academy set-up, there are question marks over the 24-year-old’s suitability to be a reliable leader of the line at a club with the magnitude of Arsenal, as his quality in front of goal lacks a clinical streak.

This is where interest in Leonardo could be interesting for both the Gunners and Nketiah, who could see his place evaporate in the instance that the prolific Brazilian starlet arrives.

As portrayed in the table above, the 20-year-old is a far greater asset in the front line than the England international, who has scored 37 senior goals for Arsenal in 148 appearances over the years.

To put into perspective Nketiah’s lack of scoring quality when compared to the Santos star, the 2003-born dynamo has scored 42 goals in the past two seasons alone, blowing the academy talent’s tally out of the park.

Marcos Leonardo

Once lauded as a “natural goalscorer” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, the Brazil U23 international found himself on the scoresheet 21 times in 2023, scoring 12 goals more than Nketiah in the 2022/23 campaign in north London.

Arteta could swiftly oust the Hale End graduate with a worthy upgrade in January by signing Leonardo, who has earned his praise during his come-up in South America thanks to his undeniable clinical streak in front of goal.

"Legs have gone…" – Pundit slams Man Utd player who has been "found out"

Manchester United have endured a poor start to the 2023/24 campaign and one of their key men has now been slammed by pundit Gabby Agbonlahor for his performances.

Man Utd injury updates

Injury problems have dogged the Red Devils this campaign and Erik ten Hag has undoubtedly been restricted in his ability to field a full-strength lineup at times this campaign, which has come to the detriment of his side's form both domestically and in the Champions League.

Manchester United's list of injuries has provided a reality check with regards to their squad depth, as Amad Diallo, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed out on derby day against Manchester City, where the Red Devils tumbled to defeat against a far superior opponent.

Raphael Varane could only make the bench for the tie, while Brazil international Casemiro lost his battle with fitness for the tie and subsequently didn't feature due to an ankle injury picked up on international duty with his native country.

At the time, Brazil boss Diniz didn't seem to be too fazed by the severity of Casemiro's injury, which has since ruled him out for several of Manchester United's fixtures, as he said: "As there was a stop (in play), I decided to make the three substitutions. We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle."

Nevertheless, Casemiro hasn't enjoyed the best of times in a Manchester United jersey this term, recording an average match rating of just 6.79/10 for his performances in the Premier League, as per WhoScored. Now, Casemiro has been made to feel the wrath of pundit Agbonlahor, who has delivered a brutally honest verdict on his recent run of form.

Gabby Agbonlahor slams Casemiro

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, Agbonlahor indicated that Casemiro should've never been brought to Old Trafford in the first place. The 37-year-old stated:

"I don’t think his bad form is a blip. The Premier League can catch up on players very quickly. It’s just like Fabinho. He can’t run any more, and he got found out. Clubs will target you. If you’ve got legs, you’re going to have a field day against Casemiro. He’s getting targeted. His legs have gone, he’s giving the ball away, he can’t get back, he’s getting spun."

"Real Madrid don’t sell players they want. It’s not his fault. It’s the fault of whoever paid big money to bring him in on a four-year contract. They couldn’t believe it when the bid came in. He’s had an amazing career, but the Premier League catches up with you."

Regardless of criticism towards Casemiro and other under-fire Manchester United players, Red Devils boss Ten Hag will be desperate to welcome the Brazilian back into the fold before too long as he aims to turn around his side's fortunes, especially following the 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

Wolves: Meet Molineux’s next Gibbs-White

In recent terms, Wolves have endured something of a midfield exodus.

Ruben Neves was picked off by Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal for £47m in June 2023. Just the season prior, young star Morgan Gibbs-White was bought by Nottingham Forest for a club record £25m plus add-ons. Even the steadily consistent Belgium international Leander Dendoncker moved on, as Aston Villa signed him for £13m, in 2022 too.

The current lineup do have the likes of Pablo Sarabia, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, and Tommy Doyle (on loan from Manchester City) in the midfield ranks. However, with the club semi-stagnant in 14th and four points above the drop zone, it's safe to say that some fresh inspiration would be more than welcome.

In terms of passes, Cundle attempts 49.83 of them per match, and this translates to not only being in the top 14% percentile – yet it adds further likeliness for assists. An assist total of 0.24 sits the Wolves loanee in the top 23% bracket when compared to other similar prospects.

However, pass completion is where Cundle stands alone in the top 1% bracket – with a superb 87.1% completion rate per 90. These 4.79 passes per 90 being progressive hints to Cundle's potential to really push on any attack.

Whether it be Championship new-boys or Premier League Wolves, Cundle has this great dexterity that if given the chance to blossom: could project him onto our nation's wider footballing consciousness.

Just ask the aforementioned Gibbs-White, who like his fellow midfielder benefitted greatly from the type of education Cundle is now receiving in the EFL. Such a loan could well see him prosper at first-team level next term under Gary O'Neil, or fetch a big fee for the club.

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, two of Australia’s premier quicks, will not be available for the Test series against Pakistan in October. Both men are undergoing rehabilitation for back injuries and, according to physiotherapist David Beakley, will not be able to recover in time to play the two-Test series in the UAE. “Pat and Josh are progressing well from their lumbar bone stress injuries but are not bowling, so, unfortunately, they will not be at the level required for Test match intensity come October.”Barring any setbacks, we are hopeful that Pat and Josh will return via the back-end of the JLT One-Day Cup, with the aim of them being available for the ODI series against South Africa in November as they build towards the India Test series,” Beakley said before offering better news for Australia and their chances in the upcoming season.”Mitchell Starc is back to unrestricted training and remains on track for the Test series against Pakistan.”All three quicks were a vital part of Australia’s most recent Test campaigns. Cummins and Hazlewood took part in every match of the Ashes in November 2017 and the subsequent tour of South Africa in March 2018, picking up 45 and 33 wickets respectively in nine Tests. Starc missed the Boxing Day Test against England due to a heel injury and then a stress fracture of the tibia kept him out of both the Johannesburg Test and the IPL. He has since returned to training in the off-season.Missing two of their big three fast bowlers does not appear to be a good news for Australia, who are not only looking to recover from the ball-tampering controversy that has followed over the past several months but also a poor record in Asia. In 24 Test matches over the last 10 years, they have won only three. With spots opening up, the reserve quicks Jackson Bird and Chadd Sayers and those who have done well in the Sheffield Shield, such as the top-wicket taker Chris Tremain (51), will be hopeful of making the trip to the UAE.
