Botafogo fecha quatro contratações para o time sub-20 visando a Copinha

> O DIA A DIA DO BOTAFOGO

A última contratação dessa leva é Thiago Reis.

Vaughan, Strauss, Stewart in frame for director role

The ECB has compiled a shortlist of three candidates to replace Paul Downton in the rebranded role of director of England cricket

The ECB has compiled a shortlist of three candidates to replace Paul Downton in the rebranded role of director of England cricket. Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Alec Stewart are believed to be the candidates discussed at a board meeting at Lord’s on Thursday, with the ECB still to define the exact parameters of the role before making an appointment. The board also announced Ian Lovett, the Middlesex chairman, as the new deputy chairman of the ECB and officially nominated Giles Clarke as the first president of the organisation. But it is the appointment of the new director of England cricket that will have most relevance to the fortunes of the men’s team over the next few years. While there is considerable doubt over whether such a role is necessary – the ECB already have a CEO, a COO and any number of other managers and coaches – the new management have decided that they require someone to help create the right environment in order to achieve lasting success for the men’s international teams. All of which suggests that whoever is appointed may well be straying on to the territory of head coach. Peter Moores can ill afford an unsuccessful tour of the Caribbean. With the ECB suffering in recent times for its inability to communicate reasonable ideas to the general public – James Whitaker has sometimes tied himself into knots as he explained team selections – the new individual will be expected to have a more public-facing role than Downton and an ability to communicate far better with the media. The cynical might suggest it is even a ‘style over substance’ position. While the scope of Downton’s job specification was, on the surface, vast, to watch him in action was to see a man attempting to carve out a role for himself. There were already individuals with experience and knowledge of their positions appointed to every aspect of Downton’s remit, which left him wandering around the outfield at the time the toss was taken or sitting in selection meetings despite having no voice on the panel. He was, in short, an expensive white elephant kitted out in a blazer. It appears the new manager will be freed of many aspects of Downton’s role, though. So the new incumbent will not be required to manage the women’s game, the age-group game (except where it becomes directly relevant) or the disability game. It may well be, though, that they take on the role of selector. While Whitaker will be in the Caribbean for the final two Tests – he was originally planning to watch only the final one – his position remains especially vulnerable. The appointment of Clarke as president remains contentious. Not only was he one of the key figures in the “Big Three” takeover of the ICC – a decision that is already beginning to look self-defeating and will only look worse with time – he was also an architect of the unsustainable ECB business model which sees the international team flogged around the world in an endless race for a few dollars more.On Wednesday, Clarke provided a reminder of his abrasive nature by storming out of the dinner to celebrate the launch of the 2015 . Clarke took exception to a speech by former ICC president, Ehsan Mani and then became embroiled in a robust exchange of views with ‘s editor, Lawrence Booth, after onlookers suggested Clarke’s behaviour fell somewhat below the standards expected of a guest at such an event. Yet the ECB continues to view Clarke as an asset.

Fantastic Tamim, Kayes slam doors on Pakistan

The incredible opening stand between Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes broke past the 300-run mark, setting newer records along the way, and making short work of what had seemed like a match-winning lead 24 hours ago

The Report by Devashish Fuloria02-May-2015
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:13

Isam: Tamim, the hero of the match

The incredible opening stand between Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes passed the 300-run mark, setting more records while making short work of what had seemed like a match-winning lead for Pakistan a little over 24 hours ago and attained, undeniably, one of the top spots in Bangladesh cricket legend.Kayes, who moved shoulder to shoulder with Tamim during the stand, fell for 150, but there was no stopping Tamim. He had kick-started Bangladesh’s resurgence in the Test and went on with unwavering resolve to register the highest Test score – 206 – by a Bangladesh batsman. As Tamim walked back after a rare mistake in the 99th over, Mohammad Hafeez, the successful bowler, was the first one to congratulate him on an enthralling innings that was both serene and audacious. And it came at a time of grief in the family. Kayes’ innings was no less vital. The draw in Khulna was in line with improvements Bangladesh have shown across formats after a difficult 2014. The transformation happened somewhere along the home series win against Zimbabwe last October, continued through the World Cup down under and if there were still doubts after the ODI and Twenty20 wins against Pakistan, the first Test should quell them.It was the first time in nine Tests that Pakistan were not able to force a win against Bangladesh. Irrespective of the conditions, that stat alone was a huge boost for Bangladesh cricket. Pakistan, a few rungs above the home side in Test rankings, are still favourites ahead of the Dhaka Test, but will be under severe pressure. The seeds of doubt for Pakistan were solely sown by the Tamim-Kayes stand. The striking feature of the batsmanship was the ability to change gears from time to time. A number of remarkable innings have been played by Bangladesh batsmen in the past, but not many have seen batsmen marrying personal goals with team requirement as seamlessly as Tamim and Kayes did in this Test.Tamim had said before the start of play on the final day that it was crucial for Bangladesh to keep their concentration through the first session as they were still behind in the Test, and both he and Kayes took time to set themselves up again. Only six runs were scored in the first five overs, with Kayes playing out three maidens on the trot from Junaid Khan, one more than what they had played in the 61 overs yesterday.Pakistan have been put under pressure ahead of their last game of the tour•AFP

The pitch had refused to change much though it was the fifth day but Junaid was reversing the ball both ways in that initial spell. Kayes was saved by the inside edge first ball of the morning as one swung in late. Then Tamim was floored by a vicious inswinger that struck him flush on the boot, the batsman falling forward on his elbows after losing balance. That delivery would have grazed the leg stump, too. If there was any hangover from yesterday, it was duly shaken off.Two balls later, Tamim watchfully clipped a similar delivery to fine leg before Kayes, in the same over, leaned into a fuller delivery to hit the first boundary of the day, which drew the pair level with Colin Cowdrey and Geoff Puller’s 55-year-old record of the highest opening stand in second innings of a Test. In the next over, Tamim stepped out of the crease and crisply drove Yasir Shah through covers to put Bangladesh in the lead. And just like that, they were back in cruise mode again. Bangladesh reached 300 in the 69th over, Tamim touched 150 in the 71st and Kayes joined him three overs later. While Tamim went on to pass his previous best of 151, Kayes, looking to push the scoring, holed out at long-off.Unaffected by the dismissal, Tamim carried on in a controlled manner, his calmness gnawing on the last crumb of hope Pakistan might have harboured. Mominul Haque came and went, missing a fuller delivery to give Junaid his first wicket of the match, but the score kept moving along. Then, as if waking up from an afternoon slumber, Tamim surprised Yasir Shah to move from 182 to 194 in two balls. In the next over, after being beaten on the charge, he smashed Junaid down the ground for his seventh six to move past Mushfiqur Rahim’s 200.At the time of Tamim’s dismissal, Bangladesh’s lead had swelled to 103 runs. Shakib Al Hasan led the grind of Pakistan bowlers and took the score past 413, Bangladesh’s previous highest second-innings total to eventual 555 for 6, their best against Pakistan. It was also the first time Pakistan had leaked more than 500 in the second innings.

Dudu chegou no domingo a 32 gols no Allianz Parque.

Exciting England face fight to level series

ESPNcricinfo previews the fourth ODI between England and New Zealand

The Preview by Alex Winter16-Jun-2015Match factsJune 17, 2015
Start time 1400 local (1300GMT)

Big PictureExciting new England got a bit too excited at the Ageas Bowl. Batting first with a morning start and then continuing to swing for all money with wickets tumbling – and then wasting 28 balls of their innings – were both symptoms of a side perhaps trying too hard to instill the characteristics of a new regime. It has been fun to watch them in the three matches so far, but this series has, in the ultimate analysis, only yielded them one win. But that doesn’t matter, we are led to believe, at this stage of England’s development. And that can be held to be true – another near-capacity crowd is expected at Trent Bridge and they will not have paid for England to go all pragmatic in pursuit of victory.Batting with gay abandon certainly entertains and it is England’s bowling attack that needs to be shored up if this team is to win more matches – something that has perhaps been overlooked in the series so far; concerns blown away by record totals with the bat. England have Steven Finn back performing well. Finn was very defensive about his World Cup record – he was England’s leading wicket-taker – and has come back strongly with the second-best economy rate of anyone in the series to have played two or more matches. David Willey swung the new ball at the Ageas Bowl and Mark Wood was very impressive in the same match and should have got England back into the match but for dropped catches. England seem to have different options to turn to and for the final two matches could call on a pair of twins from Devon to provide an extra edge to their attack.New Zealand already have a pair of siblings in their XI and both have helped their side to a series lead and the chance to clinch the rubber at Trent Bridge. Key to their success has been the form of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, who shared big stands in both matches New Zealand have won at The Oval and Ageas Bowl. Taylor’s return to form is perhaps the best story of the tour, playing with renewed fluency and back to the run-scoring he showed against India at the start of 2014, when he also made back-to-back centuries. He followed them up with another ODI hundred in his next game at the back end of the year and matching that feat at Trent Bridge could help New Zealand continue their superb ODI form: they have only lost two of their last nine series stretching back to November 2013.Form guide(last five completed matches, most recent first)
England LLWWL
New Zealand WWLLWIn the spotlightJason Roy has been sounded out for some time as an uninhibited hitter from county cricket that could fit well with an England ODI side looking for revolution but his three innings this series have yet to show that potential. His best innings this season – 140 and 143 – have come in the County Championship; instead returning four single-figure scores against the white ball in four T20s for Surrey. On New Zealand’s last tour in 2013, Mitchell McClenaghan was playing just his second series and blew England away with eight wickets at 17.25, going for just 4.89 runs an over. He has maintained an impressive ODI record and earned an IPL contract this season but in this series has struggled. Even accounting for the flat wickets, four strikes at 55.25, leaking over eight runs per over has been a disappointment.Teams newsEngland have the headline-grabbing option of selecting twins for the first time after Somerset fast bowler Jamie Overton was called-up to the squad to join his brother Craig. But both David Willey and Mark Wood impressed at the Ageas Bowl so England are likely to field an unchanged side with no further injury worries.England (possible) 1 Alex Hales, 2 Jason Roy, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Sam Billings, 8 Adil Rashid, 9 David Willey, 10 Mark Wood, 11 Steven FinnNew Zealand are also likely to be unchanged with the only option to bring Nathan McCullum back into their XI as another slow option – but he conceded 152 runs at 9.50 an over in the opening two matches before being left out at the Ageas Bowl. He could replace Mitchell McClenaghan who has only been slightly less expensive.New Zealand (possible) 1 Brendon McCullum (capt), 2 Martin Guptill, 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Grant Elliott, 6 Mitchell Santner, 7 Luke Ronchi (wk), 8 Ben Wheeler, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Matt Henry, 11 Mitchell McClenaghanPitch and conditionsThis series has benefitted from superb batting wickets at all three venues and Trent Bridge is likely to provide another to keep the runs flowing. The forecast suggests a shower is possible late in the afternoon but otherwise warm with sunny spells.Stats and trivia Seven members of the England side that played the last ODI against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, back in 2013, are not in the squad for this series. England comfortably defended 287 in that match New Zealand have played six ODIs at Trent Bridge but only two of those matches have been against England. They beat Sri Lanka in 1979 and India in 1999 but lost the other four fixtures, including an 80-run reversal in 1975, which was also a World Cup match England’s record at Trent Bridge is exactly 50% with 13 wins and losses. They also tied against Australia in 1989 with two late run-outs and conceding a scrambled bye off the final ballQuotes”It looks like we’ve won our fanbase back in one-day cricket.”
Alex Hales sums up the benefit of England’s attitude in the opening matches of the series.
“If this side were at the World Cup, I think they’d certainly scare a few teams.”
