Aí, no finalzinho eles conseguiram o gol. Em um belo passe de Sornoza, aconteceu o gol do Vagner Love.

Hernanes comentou o que fez a equipe mudar de opinião sobre participar do protocolo de entrega de medalhas:

– A princípio, a gente estava chateado. É normal depois de uma partida como esta acontecer isto. Mas depois repensamos e subimos para lá.

Notts turn to Jaques for cover

Nottinghamshire have signed Australian batsman Phil Jaques on a short-term deal for the start of next season in anticipation of losing Alex Hales to the IPL.Jaques, 34, is highly experienced in county cricket and will bolster Notts’ batting line up in the first part of the season. He will arrive at Trent Bridge on April 1 and remain until mid-June.Notts granted Hales, the England T20 opener, permission to enter the IPL auction for next season’s edition, which is expected to run from early April to mid-May following the World T20. Hales could therefore miss a large portion of the County Championship. But in Jaques, Notts have acquired a proven performer with eight seasons of county cricket behind him, chiefly with Yorkshire, for whom he scored 770 runs at 36.66 last season to help them to second place in the Championship.”Phil has scored runs consistently for Yorkshire over the past couple of seasons and he is highly regarded within the game for his ability and for his character,” Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said.”This deal was on the cards when we granted permission for Alex to seek an IPL deal and it fits nicely with Phil’s desire to play county cricket next season.”Jaques retired from first-class cricket in Australia and holds a British passport so the deal has no implications for Notts’ overseas player targets.”I’ve spoken to a few of the Australian players who have played for Nottinghamshire and they all speak very highly of the setup, the people and the ground,” Jaques said.”I’ve got good memories of playing at Trent Bridge and I enjoy the proximity to the crowd and the atmosphere created by walking through the members on the pavilion steps.”A short-term deal fits nicely for me, having a young family, and I look forward to making a contribution.”Notts struggled in the Championship last season and entered the final round of matches in danger of being relegated. But they compensated for their four-day performances by winning the Yorkshire Bank 40.Despite the success, club captain Chris Read relinquished the role in one-day cricket with James Taylor being appointed in his place.

Ramdin, Chanderpaul revive WI

Denesh Ramdin and Shivnarine Chanderpaul stunned New Zealand with a sixth-wicket partnership of 200 to revive West Indies to 289 for 6 from 86 for 5

The Report by Abhishek Purohit18-Dec-20130:00

Ramdin, Chanderpaul restored spirit

Smart Stats

Denesh Ramdin’s century was only the 11th by a West Indies wicketkeeper in away Tests. Ramdin has scored three centuries in away Tests, equalling Clyde Walcott’s record for most overseas hundreds by a West Indies wicketkeeper. The hundred in Hamilton is also Ramdin’s fourth Test ton and he is one century away from equalling Jeff Dujon for the record of most hundredsby a West Indies wicketkeeper

The 200-run partnership between Ramdin and Shivnarine Chanderpaul was only the eighth double-century partnership for the sixth wicket by West Indies batsmen. Including this partnership, four have come in away Tests. Ramdin was also involved in the last 200-plus sixth-wicket partnership by West Indies – against England in Bridgetown in 2009.

Ramdin and Chanderpaul came together with the West Indies score at 86 for 5 – the lowest score at which a West Indies pair, where the batsmen added 200 or more runs for the sixth or lower wickets, had begun the partnership. Only four double-century partnerships in Tests, coming for the sixth or lower wickets, have begun at scores lower than the one in Hamlton.

The stand between Ramdin and Chanderpaul was the eighth double-century partnership against New Zealand for the sixth wicket. The last sixth-wicket pair to add 200 or more runs against them was Australia’s Damien Martyn and Adam Gilchrist in Wellington in 2005. This partnership was also the third 200-run partnership at this venue.

Marlon Samuels – who failed to open his account in this innings – has had an ordinary year in Tests. In 2012, Samuels had scored 866 runs at 86.60, including three hundreds and four fifties in seven matches and 11 innings. In 2013, though, he has scored 285 runs at 25.90 in the same number of innings.

It is their collapses that are spectacular these days, and West Indies didn’t disappoint on that front again, losing 4 for 9 to convert a solid start of 77 for 1 to 86 for 5. But what followed was even more spectacular, and substantial. Denesh Ramdin and Shivnarine Chanderpaul stunned New Zealand with a sixth-wicket partnership of 200 that came at just over four an over. Ramdin’s exit late in the day after his fourth Test hundred gave New Zealand some respite, but Chanderpaul was closing in on his 29th century, and West Indies had two specialist spinners and two competent part-timers to exploit a slow pitch which afforded turn and bounce for slow bowlers even on day one.Just under half an hour of typical chaos after lunch when those four wickets fell seemed to justify Brendon McCullum’s decision to bowl. But the relative comfort with which West Indies batted on either side of that short period showed that the Seddon Park pitch had been of little help to New Zealand. There was some swing for large parts of the day, and the occasional seam, but under mostly bright sunshine, the surface lacked the bite that had been there in Wellington. New Zealand weren’t as disciplined as they had been in the previous Test. Ramdin and Chanderpaul were never tied down, and hit boundaries freely, helped along by some uncharacteristically sloppy New Zealand fielding and catching.Ramdin was put down twice on 57 and 92 at midwicket and short cover, and Chanderpaul escaped with several airy nudges that just beat leg gully. Both batsmen took their chances, and prospered. Ramdin was imperious through cover and point, driving the fast bowlers at will for fours. The off-side infield would think they had an opportunity, but by the time someone dived or stuck out his hand, the ball would have sped towards the boundary. Ramdin repeatedly unsettled the legspinner Ish Sodhi, slog-sweeping and pulling him powerfully.Chanderpaul was troubled by Sodhi’s turn and bounce initially, the fielder at leg gully always in with a chance. But he survived, and drove the quick bowlers smoothly down the ground. New Zealand tried the short ball often against Chanderpaul, with a deep square leg, fine leg and leg gully, but he took them on, pulling confidently. There was a flurry of boundaries just before and after the second new ball was taken, before Ramdin edged Corey Anderson behind in the 87th over to fall for 107. The previous wicket had gone 299 balls ago, when New Zealand had found themselves on top, out of nowhere.West Indies showed again they could collapse regardless of the pitch, conditions or bowling. Kraigg Brathwaite, playing his first Test since April 2012 in place of Darren Bravo, had helped the visitors navigate the first session for the loss of only Kieran Powell, who had only himself to blame for trying an upper-cut while swaying away from a bouncer. Brathwaite, dropped on 13 and 15, and Powell had survived for more than an hour and put on 41.It was Tim Southee who kickstarted the drama soon after lunch. Brathwaite had been tentative often but had survived through some pluck and some fortune to proceed to 45. But when Southee dug it in short, Brathwaite’s awkward style conspired to send the ball to gully. Southee was bowling some big outswingers now, and Kirk Edwards feathered one of them behind while trying to leave it, and was given out after New Zealand reviewed. Marlon Samuels flayed irresponsibly at his ninth delivery to edge to gully for a duck and Narsingh Deonarine missed a clip to be caught in front.Yet again, it was down to Chanderpaul, and he wasn’t going to throw it away easily on such a pitch. Refreshingly, even Ramdin wasn’t willing to.

Smith not bothered about pre-series jibes

Graeme Smith wants to keep the focus on getting his team ready for another competitive series and not worry about pre-series talk

Firdose Moonda03-Feb-2014

‘When you play against Australia enough, you learn to sift through a lot of the… what’s the word… the bull dot dot dot’ – Smith•Gallo Images

Smith on South Africa without Jacques Kallis

For the first time in 18 years, South Africa enter a series without Jacques Kallis to fill the allrounders’ role. One of Ryan McLaren or Wayne Parnell will likely take over, batting at No.7 and playing as a fourth seamer. Smith gave no hints as to which way the management was leaning but stressed South Africa have to move on from Kallis swiftly and clinically.
“I wouldn’t want to put pressure on any one’s person’s shoulders. I hope the players who get this opportunity really see it as that,” he said. “You can’t hide from the fact that we are going to miss someone of Jacques’ calibre. But there is enough quality and enough talent. I would hate to see Jacques as a burden. The key is to appreciate what he has done. From a playing perspective, we will miss his quality but we must be proud of what he has given us. We’ve got to be smart, we’ve got to be clever and we have to make those decisions that will see us continue to do well.”

The pre-series hype between South Africa and Australia was suitably simmering when Michael Clarke called Australia’s bowling attack the “best in the world,” when Pat Cummins recalled South Africa’s batsmen being “scared,” of Mitchell Johnson in the last series here in 2011-12 and when Peter Siddle earmarked Graeme Smith as the man his team “want to put pressure on.”But all the smoke was coming out of just one pot. The Australian one.Smith changed that today, as South Africa got together for the first day of their preparation and he stoked the flames, albeit in a subtle manner. “When you play against Australia enough, you learn to sift through a lot of the… what’s the word… the bull dot dot dot,” Smith said, at the Wanderers with a wry smile.”We just want to focus on ourselves and get ourselves ready. We don’t feel the need to get involved in other things. We know this series will be decided on the quality of the cricket that will be played.”After months of administrative wrangling, dating back to the circumstances which led to a curtailed India visit, those words will taste like water on a scorching day to parched fans. Cricket, and maybe only cricket, can finally take centre stage.Although this contest will take place against the backdrop of the ICC’s proposed restructure, where Australia could assume an even greater position as haves and South Africa a lesser one as have-nots, it still has the makings of a classic clash. The hosts are the top-ranked Test team and have been for 18 months. They have not lost a series in four summers, dating back to 2008-09.Then Australia were their conquerors. The same Australia they have not beaten in a series at home since readmission. The same Australia who appeared ripe for the picking a few months ago but have since recorded an Ashes triumph. The same Australia whose sternest challenge, it is widely thought, lies in how their batsmen can front up to the South African pack.Australia’s fighting talk has come either by or about their bowlers. One journalist asked Smith if he thought that was an indication Australia knew their batting was going to come under scrutiny. Smith shouldered arms, calling it a “good question,” before offering a cryptic answer. “We are really motivated to expose certain things,” he said. Those things could well be weaknesses in the Australian line-up, who Smith thinks, like many others, will face “unique challenges” in South African conditions. “I’ve opened the batting in South Africa for long enough to know that it’s going to be testing,” he said. “The moving ball is something we have become accustomed to. Our bowling attack knows how to exploit conditions here.”Although Australian surfaces also have pace and bounce, Smith called them “a lot truer to bat on,” because of the lack of sideways movement. “You can hit through the line with more confidence than you can in South Africa,” he said. “Here’s it is guys who have the ability to play the ugly knock that can change games.”Someone like Brad Haddin then, who saved Australia several times recently may find himself right at home. But so could someone like Michael Clarke, whose century in what was a solitary effort in Cape Town in November 2011, was an example of what he can do in tough situations.Smith didn’t say it but as much as the Australian attack will be gunning for him, his own bowlers will go after Clarke. The theory of felling the leader works both ways, after all, and the pressure on both of them will be at its peak.”A large part of captaincy is not just about making a decision on the field. I have a lot of respect for Michael,” Smith said. “It (the pressure) never goes away. I have been in the job for 11 years and every tour I know I have got to front up. When they are big series, it’s heightened.”

SLC confirms opposition to ICC revamp plans

Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed its staunch opposition of the ICC’s proposed revamp, after a special meeting of the board’s stakeholders voted unanimously against the revised proposals presented to the ICC directors

Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed its staunch opposition of the ICC’s proposed revamp, after a special meeting of the board’s stakeholders voted unanimously against the revised proposals presented to the ICC directors. The board had also advice from legal experts, who had surmised that the draft resolutions were in direct conflict with the principles upon which the ICC had been founded. All present at the meeting featuring “stakeholders, past captains, past presidents and secretaries of SLC and the sports ministry representative” as well as the board’s executive committee had been “in unanimous agreement with the decision taken by the executive committee – to oppose the revised proposals,” an official release said.Former players Aravinda de Silva, Anura Tennekoon, Ranjit Fernando and Michael Tissera had been at the meeting, in addition to selectors Sanath Jayasuriya and Hashan Tillakaratne. Past presidents Thilanga Sumathipala and Vijaya Mallasekara had also attended, as well as a host of administrators not currently holding positions at SLC. Arjuna Ranatunga was not present, but he had already slammed the revamp in public. The sports ministry declined to take an official stance on the proposals, but SLC’s decision is believed to have been energised by political support from the nation’s government. Most of SLC’s debt is owed to the state-owned Bank of Ceylon.Sri Lanka had applied for an $8 million interest-free loan from the ICC before the position paper was unveiled, and this had been among the issues held over their head by the Big Three boards at the Dubai meeting. Other threats had also been delivered, many of which were relayed to SLC’s membership at various meetings over the past week.”When those details came to us, we had all been extremely surprised at how much pressure was being put on SLC by the big boards,” an SLC member, who has held past office at the board, said. “We didn’t think [the Big Three] would go to such lengths. In a way that made everyone even more keen to refuse these proposals, on principle.”Among the legal objections, which had also helped consolidate SLC’s stance, was the view that the concentration of power at the ICC contravened an article in the ICC’s Memorandum of Association. This document states one of the objects for which the ICC was formed is to “administer, develop, co-ordinate, regulate and promote the game of Cricket world-wide in co-operation with its Members”.SLC’s lawyers had also cast doubt on the authority of the Finance & Commercial Affairs Committee to suggest such sweeping changes. They also noted, among the position paper’s conflicts of interest, that the same bodies responsible for suggesting the proposals stand to gain most from them.
