A contratação do atacante Keno foi anunciada oficialmente pelo Palmeiras nesta terça-feira. Aos 27 anos, o jogador, que foi um dos destaques do Santa Cruz no último Brasileirão, assinou vínculo de quatro anos, até o final de 2020.

– Fico muito feliz por estar fazendo parte deste grupo para 2017 e que o meu ano seja melhor do que o de 2016. Vou dar o meu máximo para ajudar a equipe – declarou o jogador ao site oficial do clube alviverde.

Para o meio-campo, Alejandro Guerra, do Atlético Nacional (COL), e Gustavo Scarpa, do Fluminense, são os dois que mais agradam à diretoria. No caso do venezuelano, a confiança pelo acerto já foi maior, mas as negociações devem retomar agora com o fim do Mundial de Clubes.

A parte financeira não é um problema para o Verdão, que está disposto a pagar pelo venezuelano de 31 anos 3 milhões de dólares (R$ 10 milhões). O Santos, outro com interesse no armador, está atrás por considerar o valor alto. O problema é que clubes do México e Estados Unidos já mostraram ter a intenção de gastar até mais do que o oferecido pelo Palmeiras.

Já Scarpa ganhou força recentemente depois de sua renovação até 2021 travar. O Verdão, já interessado no atleta, informou que está disposto a pagar um salário superior ao que ele recebe hoje, além de apresentar um projeto sólido, que inclui a disputa da Libertadores do próximo ano e a montagem de um elenco forte. O time tricolor ainda confia em sua permanência, apesar da proposta sedutora do campeão brasileiro.

No ataque, Pratto é um sonho do clube e da dona da Crefisa, Leila Pereira, que teve um novo atrito com Paulo Nobre – a contratação poderia ser bancada pela parceira, isto até o novo problema. O Atlético-MG pede algo entre 10 milhões de euros (R$ 35 milhões) e 15 milhões de euros (R$ 53 milhões) para liberá-lo. Além disso, o Galo prefere vendê-lo para o exterior.

Borja, do Atlético Nacional, é um sonho distante – na primeira consulta o Verdão ouviu que precisaria desembolsar mais de R$ 70 milhões. Por conta disso, nem chegou a fazer uma oferta pelo atacante de 23 anos, enquanto Alario, atacante do River (ARG), foi oferecido e as condições de negócio não agradaram.

O Santos terminou a última temporada dono de um dos melhores ataques entre todos os clubes da Série A. Com 110 gols marcados em 66 partidas, os comandados do técnico Dorival Júnior tiveram média de 1,67 gol por jogo. Apesar de ter balançado as redes em menor quantidade que o Atlético-MG, por exemplo, o Peixe foi o dono da maior média do futebol brasileiro em 2016.

Mesmo com ataque eficiente ao longo da temporada passada, o clube acredita que é preciso reforçar o setor para manter os números e chegar longe na Libertadores, mas tem encontrado dificuldades no mercado. Entre todos os alvos cobiçados, o único contratado foi o atacante Vladimir Hernández, colombiano que pertencia ao Junior Barranquilla (COL).

Depois de sondar Cazares e ouvir “não” do Atlético-MG, o Peixe ainda mantém sonho distante por Robinho e Gabigol, mas sabe que não terá caminho fácil a percorrer. O primeiro terminou 2016 em alta no Galo e, mesmo que deseje retornar à Vila, não terá saída facilitada de Belo Horizonte. Avoiding defeat in their final-day meeting with Southampton was enough for David Moyes’ team to secure sixth, a place above London rivals Tottenham and a spot in the group stages of the Europa League.

It was never quite as easy as that and it was by no means South Africa’s most polished performance in the field, but with Kallis and Rhodes apparently nerveless, Sri Lanka were again unable to check the onward surge of a supremely confident home team.Sri Lanka’s tour is not over, not just yet. By winning the next three one-dayers and the third Test they could square both series. But it takes some leap of faith to believe that Sanath Jayasuriya’s tourists still have something in reserve to draw upon.For once the Sri Lankan top three fired. Romesh Kaluwitharana made 83 and Jayasuriya 66 as they put on 110 for the first wicket and with Marvan Atapattu adding an unbeaten 51, they managed to post 247 for four. It seemed a decent enough total, if 10 or 15 short of what they really needed, but South Africa still had to get them.There were a number of uncharacteristic lapses in the field from the South Africans, six or seven dropped catches depending on the harshness of the judge. The worst of them came from Alan Dawson, who missed Kaluwitharana at long on, and Makhaya Ntini, who dropped Mahela Jayawardene coming in from the cover boundary.And Herschelle Gibbs managed to get himself trapped leg before off the second ball he faced to give the Sri Lankans an early lift in the field. Kallis reached his 100 with what proved to be the last ball of the game – a pull through midwicket to take South Africa to victory.It was just as well for him that he reached the boundary. Rhodes was also still around, unbeaten on 75 off 59 balls and it seems certain that had Kallis not made his century, the man of the match award would have gone to the Natalian.They each played their hands quite beautifully, Kallis all controlled power and assurance while Rhodes dashed up and down, improvising at each and every turn. Rhodes produced the shot of the match, a reverse sweep off Muttiah Muralitharan which dropped just inches inside the point boundary rope.It was a stroke that said a fair deal about South Africa’s view of Muralitharan. They believe he will always take wickets in Test matches, but they do not fear him and the hold he had over them just six months ago on his home soil has been broken.Despite losing by eight wickets, Sri Lanka played well on Tuesday. Their batsmen produced, they hustled on the field, but on a good batting wicket they just didn’t have anyone to take wickets at important stages and the South Africans were able to build match-winning partnerships.It ended with seven balls to spare, but South Africa’s victory suggested that the home team always had a bit in hand. Can Sri Lanka now win three ODIs and a Test match straight off? You wouldn’t want to put your house on it.

Liverpool could land their ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho this summer in Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt.

What’s the story?

According to German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten (via The Mirror), BVB are prepared to let the attacking midfielder depart over the upcoming transfer window after falling down the pecking order at the Signal Iduna Park.

Brandt was Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer target four years ago before he settled for Mohamed Salah instead, and now the highly successful tactician could finally be given the chance to land his man.

Edwards masterstroke

With Georginio Wijnaldum joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain, a new option in the centre of the park will be needed before the 2021/22 campaign gets underway, while competition and cover for the front three is also thought to be high up on Liverpool’s wish list.

In Brandt, director of football Michael Edwards would find the answer to both of those issues.

The German international is comfortable playing through the middle or on either flank and has contributed to 90 goals in 229 Bundesliga appearances throughout his career.

His impressive displays have earned many plaudits in his homeland and across the continent, with his former manager Peter Bosz highlighting Brandt’s talent a couple of years ago.

“He’s such a good player, and you’ve got to give good players the ball as much as possible. Today he was really exceptional. He barely lost the ball, he was choosing the right moments to complete the triangles. He’s a great player,” said Bosz.

However, after struggling for game time last season, reports have claimed a fee of just £17.5 million would be enough for Dortmund to part ways with the 6 ft forward.

A move for Brandt, therefore, would be a masterstroke from Edwards. The Anfield outfit arguably never replaced Coutinho following his departure to Barcelona back in January 2018.

The Reds coped just fine in the South American’s absence, winning the Premier League and Champions League, but the creativity that the samba star brought to Klopp’s charges has never been replicated.

Both Brandt and Coutinho are attacking forces comfortable in a variety of positions, who thrive finding space between the lines and look to slip in a teammate before taking a shot themselves.

Liverpool currently have nobody like that in their first-team squad and haven’t really had it since their Brazilian gem left, but the addition of Brandt would fill that sizeable gap and potentially help to fire the 19-time English champions back to the summit of English football.

This summer could be quite a depressing one for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They have a new manager in Bruno Lage but he hasn’t been greeted by positive news after walking through the door at Molineux.

What’s the word?

Nuno Santo left the Midlands a number of weeks ago after it became apparent that Wolves were going to have to sell their best players in order to invest in the squad over the next few months.

Ruben Neves has been linked with a £35m exit with Arsenal chasing his signature.

However, the future of Adama Traore is also uncertain. The Spaniard has been in contract negotiations with the club but those talks have yet to spur on an agreement.

As a consequence, Wolves could sell him. That’s the word of 90min, who report this weekend that the hierarchy have informed Lage that some of the bigger names will be sold this summer – including Adama Traore.

Huge blow

To lose Neves was a hefty blow but to witness Traore heading for the departure lounge will only rub further salt into the wounds.

After all, he is one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League on his day.

The 25-year-old endured a disappointing season in front of goal by scoring twice but he still had the beating of defensive lines on a regular basis.

He completed 4.1 dribbles per game which was comfortably the highest ratio of any player in the top division in England this term.

On top of that, he was ranked fifth in Europe’s top five leagues for the most progressive ball carries.

For context, Lionel Messi was ranked third which elevates the magnificent play style that Traore possesses. He carried the ball 126 meters per 90 minutes and recorded 11.5 carries per 90.

He might not score on a regular basis but it’s impossible to deny the talents of a forward who causes as much danger as that.

Players like Traore don’t come along very often and if Lage loses him within a matter of weeks of being at Molineux, he should be particularly seething.

How the new manager replaces him will be a big early test in his Wolves tenure.
