Former Sunderland striker Darren Bent has had his say on Newcastle’s pursuit of Steve Bruce, and for once the Toon Army might actually agree with their arch-rivals.

Bruce looks all set to become Newcastle’s next permanent manager, replacing Rafael Benitez after the Spaniard left at the expiry of his contract.

The Telegraph claim the Magpies are “poised” to appoint the Sheffield Wednesday boss and he could even join in time to fly to China with the squad next week.

And Bent, who spent two years under Bruce at the Stadium of Light from 2009 to 2011, does not want the 58 year-old to take charge.

What did he say?

“I think he’s a good manager, I just worry for Steve Bruce that considering he’s only been at Sheffield Wednesday for not even a year,” Bent exclusively told Football Insider.

“I think he needs to get Sheffield Wednesday up there, do what he needs to do at a special club like Sheffield Wednesday, I’ve always liked them, but Newcastle at the moment are on uneven ground.

“I’d hate to see him go to Newcastle. He’d get off to a bit of a rocky start, the fans would be on his back, then they start bringing in the Mackem connection and then all of a sudden it doesn’t last. If I was Steve Bruce I’d say ‘Thank you very much’ but stay at Sheffield Wednesday.”

It’s really impossible to disagree with the 35 year-old former striker on this one, and most of the Toon Army will be right behind him.

Bruce is in a good situation at Hillsborough, where he led a resurgence that meant rather than their season sputtering to a stop, the Owls lost just three of their final 18 Championship matches.

At Newcastle, he would likely have zero control over transfers, and would walk into a club with takeover rumours swirling, no new signings so far this summer and a depleted squad after the departures of Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon.

Newcastle fans don’t want the former Hull City and Aston Villa boss to take over either, so we’d have to think they will agree with former Sunderland man Bent on this one.

وأتم: “زوجة عبد الرحمن مجدي لاعب الإسماعيلي تريد انضمامه للنادي الأهلي”.

Eddie. Eddie. Eddie. The now synonymous chants whenever Arsenal’s young striker Eddie Nketiah takes to the field. The 20-year-old burst onto the scene with a memorable late brace to spare the Gunners’ blushes against Norwich in the League Cup in October 2017, and became a real fan favourite by doing so.

However, the England U21 international has struggled to really break into the side since that day, but following some fine displays in pre-season, this could well be Nketiah’s year.

Reports earlier in January of this year had suggested that Nketiah could have been set for a loan move to the Bundesliga, but that fell through at the final moment. Unfortunately for the striker, that situation didn’t seem to translate into many opportunities in north London, and he was forced into the shadows as Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette stole the show up front.

But following Danny Welbeck’s departure on a free transfer at the end of last season, there is certainly greater room for Nketiah to stake a claim. Indeed, his showings in pre-season have certainly given Emery food for thought. The 20-year-old has netted three times in two games in the International Champions Cup, and more than held his own against Bayern Munich and Fiorentina.

A clinical penalty-box predator, Nketiah’s style of play gives Emery a different options to his current striking options. The Englishman is an out-and-out striker, who thrives on poaching goals. The likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette on the other hand have shown that they have different facets to their game. If the Gunners are in need of a goal or an extra body in the box to cause some havoc and chaos, Nketiah could very well be that man.

Indeed, as Emery hinted in his post-match press conference following the Fiorentina game, the chance for Nketiah to stay at the Emirates for the upcoming campaign is there for him to take.

The Spaniard said: “If you earn the right to be with us it’s because I can promise you that you are going to have minutes. We started this pre-season with the same idea as we finished last year – stay with us. And my idea is that if you progress like we are seeing from you, you can have a chance here for us.”

If Nketiah can continue to impress, then he may well have done enough to convince the Gunners hierarchy that he’s good enough to compete with the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette. And that isn’t too shabby for a 20-year-old.

According to The Times, Lille forward Rafael Leao is close to a £31.5m move to AC Milan in a switch that will see Lille net 20% of any future sale, as well as centre-back Tiago Djalo moving to the Ligue 1 side as part of the deal.

Everton were also interested in the 20-year-old striker and had reportedly submitted a €40m (£36.3m) offer for his services, but they have seemingly lost out to the Italian giants in the race for his signature.

It’s not all bad news for the Toffees, however, as they are close to completing the signing of Moise Kean from Juventus for an initial fee of £29m – the teenager is due to fly over to finalise the deal on Wednesday.

When the Merseysiders officially get this one over the line, they will arguably have a better attacker on their hands.

As you can see, the pair are pretty similar in terms of their all-round attacking game.

Kean and Leao average the same amount of shots per game, whilst there is just 0.1 difference between their key passes per game – the Italy international also completes 0.7 dribbles per game whilst Leao isn’t far behind with 0.4.

Aside from that, it is Kean’s superior goals-per-game average that should help Everton get over the loss of Leao to AC Milan.

The Portuguese forward averages a goal every three games, whereas Kean manages to find the net closer to an average of a goal every two games.

Given the fact that the Toffees’ two strikers – Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – netted just nine league goals between them last season, Kean’s goal-to-game ratio should be music to the Merseysiders’ ears.

Everton shouldn’t give their failed capture of Leao a moment’s thought when they get a deal for Kean over the line.

Wolves completed the signing of Azerbaijan striker Renat Dadashov from Portuguese club Estoril yesterday, but he will not feature at Molineux this season.

BBC reported that the Premier League club had signed the 20-year-old but he will instantly return to Portugal for a season-long loan deal with Pacos de Ferreira.

BBC quoted Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell as saying: “Renat is an exciting prospect. When working in the transfer window, we are not only focused on the present but also the future, and in Renat, I’m very hopeful we have secured a signing who will develop into a fantastic footballer in the future.”

Dadashov stands to make history as the first Azerbaijani player to feature in the Premier League, assuming he plays for Wolves upon the end of his loan move and they are still a top-flight club.

The Germany-born striker represented the country of his birth at underage groups but has since switched to the nation of his parents for senior level.

Having been a prolific scorer at underage levels for RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, he joined Estoril in Portugal last summer and scored four goals in 27 games for the club. In total, he had 1,230 minutes of action last season, which works out at one goal per 307.5 minutes.

However, he only made seven league starts for Estoril and played just three 90-minute league matches, while also being sent off twice. Also, his most recent goal came last December against Farense, with 11 subsequent league appearances yielding zero return.

Wolves’ two main strikers Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota netted 17 and 10 goals respectively in 2018/19. Jimenez notched his tally in 3,550 minutes of game-time, one goal per 208.8 minutes, while Jota reached double figures with 2,630 minutes of action, one goal per 263 minutes.

Leo Bonatini scored once for Wolves last season in 291 minutes on the field, while on-loan strikers Bright Enobakhare and Rafa Mir ended the campaign with six goals in 1,674 minutes (one per 279 minutes) and seven goals in 1,650 minutes (one per 235.7 minutes) respectively.

The Azerbaijan striker’s goal ratio is not an altogether prolific one, especially when it came in the Portuguese second tier, and is inferior to all five forwards mentioned above.

Both Jimenez and Jota recorded much better goal ratios in the Premier League, which is ranked five places higher than Portugal’s Primeira Liga in UEFA’s association club coefficient.

Therefore, allowing Dadashov to spend another season in Portugal to further his development is a sensible move from Wolves, who will hope to get back a more prolific and disciplined striker next summer.

Neil Lennon has stated Scott Sinclair could leave Celtic before the English transfer window closes tonight, having been left out of the squad for the CFR Cluj Champions League tie.

What’s the story?

Sinclair missed last night’s 1-1 draw in Romania against Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers and could’ve played his last game for the Celts.

Lennon revealed that the 30-year-old wasn’t part of the squad due to his uncertain future, telling BBC Sport: “There’s a bit of interest, but nothing concrete at the minute. That might change over the next 24 hours.”

The winger has been linked to making a return to England in this window, with Premier League new-boys Sheffield United chasing his signature earlier in the window, per The Scottish Sun.

That Sinclair is reportedly looking for pastures new away from Parkhead shouldn’t come as any great surprise.

And it might just be the best move for all parties concerned.

The former Chelsea man was prolific in his first season at Celtic, scoring 25 times and assisting 11 in his 50 appearances in the 2016/17 campaign. Worryingly, his returns have gone down season-by-season since and he’s seen younger stars race ahead of him in the pecking order.

Mikey Johnston and Lewis Morgan have both been preferred to the Englishman so far this season, with Johnston particularly impressing the supporters.

It already looks like it will be the 20-year-old’s position to lose and, with Morgan filling in during his absence it doesn’t look good for Sinclair at Parkhead this season.

Similarly, the signing of Marian Shved will do little to give Sinclair hope of making a go of it again in Glasgow. The Ukrainian winger has been used sparingly as he gets accustomed to Lennon’s style of play but will be expected to make an impact this season.

With this competition for places not getting any easier for Sinclair, it would be wise for him to get out of Parkhead quickly as to avoid a similar lack of game time like he did at Manchester City.

It would also be just as useful to Celtic to move him on and allow the likes of Johnston, Morgan and Shved a chance in the coming campaign.
