West Ham United are set to accept a £2million bid from Alaves for striker Lucas Perez, according to La Voz de Galicia.

What’s the word?

Lucas was placed up for sale at the end of the 2018-19 season, Football FanCast sources have confirmed.

And it appears that he could now be set to finally seal a move away from the London Stadium.

The former Arsenal forward made 19 appearances in all competitions but was in the starting XI in the Premier League on just four occasions and never once completed the 90 minutes.

West Ham are minded to accept the offer, the report claims, but Lucas is keeping his options open.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed success in Spain in the past, scoring 32 goals in 93 games in the league for both Deportivo La Coruna and Rayo Vallecano.

A damning indictment

This shows up the utter folly of West Ham’s recent transfer strategy.

He has never really lit up the Premier League – he scored just seven goals for Arsenal across 21 games – but because he used to play for the Gunners, he became a Hammers target.

That is what they used to do; bring in players with supposed big reputations despite them being either past their best or, quite frankly, not good enough.

It should serve as a lesson to both co-owners, David Gold and David Sullivan, with the club now set to take a £2m hit on a player they signed for £4m in 2018.

And it should colour their thinking this summer, with the club in dire need of investment if they are to progress. They can ill-afford another Lucas Perez.

In an interview with Radio WM, Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow has laid down the club’s aims to keep Jack Grealish this summer in what is one of his biggest signs of ambition since he joined the club last year.

What’s the word?

The future of Grealish hasn’t been too certain this term, even despite the skipper signing a new five-year deal towards the beginning of the season.

In recent months he’s been the subject of reports claiming that both Tottenham and Crystal Palace have an interest.

However, after the Villans earned promotion to the Premier League earlier this week, there appears to be a greater sense of hope in keeping their star man.

Purslow, who arrived at Villa Park in August 2018, has now laid down a marker, displaying a monumental sign of the club’s ambition. Speaking to Radio WM, he spoke about the future of Grealish, claiming he wouldn’t be going anywhere.

“I have no interest in selling Jack Grealish. He will lead us into the Premier League.”

Sign of intent

Considering he grew up a Villa fan, it would send out the completely wrong message if the club caved into bids for the creative midfielder during the off-season. As such, Purslow’s comments are a huge sign of ambition as they now return to the top-flight.

The 23-year-old is someone the Villans can build the team around in the years to come and there will be no better place to do that than in the Premier League.

It’s clear the club now have a greater sense of urgency and a far better approach when it comes to off-field matters.

Last summer they found themselves in financial trouble until Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris walked through the doors with their wealthy resources. As a result, Villa are now in an entirely different league, quite literally!

£170m has been added to the finance pot after winning at Wembley and the idea of even keeping Grealish would have been unthinkable last summer.

Therefore, for their CEO to come out and say what he has about their skipper, sends out a statement of intent to not only the Villa Park faithful but also the rest of the Premier League.

This is definitely one of the biggest displays of their aspiration yet.

وأضاف: “في الدوري الإنجليزي، عندما لا تستغل مثل هذه الفرص، تتم معاقبتك من قبل الفرق المنافسة، إذا كانت هذه الفرصة قد سنحت لأي لاعب آخر غير تريزيجيه، لسُجلت هدفًا”.

Adama Traore has proven to be an extremely enigmatic figure since arriving at Wolves for a considerable fee of £18m last summer.

The Midlands club chose to trigger the release clause in his contract at Middlesbrough but he’s not lived up to expectations after signing.

As such, the Spaniard could now be on the move. Calciomercato report that Napoli are turning their attentions to the former Barcelona man after missing out on Hirving Lozano.

The two players completely differ in quality so it’s a rather surprising admission.

Taking to Twitter to react to the news, Wolves supporters were divided over a possible move away for Traore.

One fan claimed he’d drive the 23-year-old to Naples himself whilst another suggested it was brilliant news, saying the club were moving too fast for him.

However, other supporters wanted to see the ex-Boro man stay. One tweeter was worried Traore would become great if he left, urging his team not to sell. A further individual wanted to see him used properly at Wolves.

The 5 foot 10 attacker started just eight times in the Premier League last term, appearing on 21 occasions from the bench.

His poor season was summed up by a torrid time in front of goal, finding the net just once.

West Ham United have completed the signing of Spanish central attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals from Villarreal.

The deal is said to be worth £24m and is the second most expensive in the club’s history with both Director of Football Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini huge fans of the two-time Spanish international.

It seems like many members of the Claret & Blue Army are joining the duo in getting excited about this deal too as they’ve foolishly fallen head over heels for Fornals on Twitter this week. But there are many reasons they shouldn’t be getting too excited about the 23-year-old.

There’s no doubt that the Spaniard has the Dimitri Payet factor about him, that born ability to produce something special and turn a game on its head.

A brief look at any number of the typical videos about the player on YouTube will reveal the whole host of skills, flicks, tricks and stunning cross-field balls in his armoury. It’s definitely enough to remind you of a certain Frenchman.

But if we talk about Payet for a second, just think about what all of his pre-hype arrival and excellent start to life in east London ended up unravelling into. The Felipe Anderson signing has gone in a different direction so far, but it is always a risk when you sign high-profile players for big transfer fees – even Marko Arnautovic has had some big issues.

Anyway, Fornals clearly lacks the potency of the famous number 27 having registered just two goals and three assists in La Liga last term.

Plus, have these fans stopped to think about where he possibly fits into Pellegrini’s squad and whether he’s truly needed at London Stadium?

With Manuel Lanzini the number-ten-in-chief at the club and keen to make up for lost time in 2018/2019 next season, will he even be starting?

And besides, back-up for the Argentine international could have been found in the academy should he suffer another serious injury, or even in the much cheaper Samir Nasri option.

If David Gold and David Sullivan were going to splash the cash on a midfielder this summer, it should have been someone used to playing a little further back, a potential long-term partner for Declan Rice.

And if they are planning to pair up Fornals with Rice that would be completely misusing his limited talents and potentially leaving the latter way too exposed.

Instead they’re making the Spaniard one of the marquee signings of the summer months and whilst the deal is an instant crowd-pleaser, Hammers may end up wondering if these funds could have been used more wisely further down the line.

Celtic fans are excited about the potential signing of David Turnbull after the club agreed a fee with Motherwell for his transfer.

The North Lanarkshire club announced on Wednesday evening that the player has been given permission to speak with the Hoops after a record bid for a ‘Well player was accepted.

The Daily Mail later reported the value of the potential transfer is in the region of £2.8m.
