Aston Villa fans on Twitter are unsure about Green following Yeovil performance

Aston Villa scraped into the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening with a 1-0 win away at League Two side Yeovil Town, and after the game fans on Twitter were questioning whether Andre Green had done enough to justify a continued run in the side.

A pacy left-winger, Green came through the academy system at Villa, making his debut for the club in the Premier League as he came off the bench in a 2-0 loss to Spurs in March 2016.

He spent much of last season out with a hamstring injury and was limited to just five Championship appearances, scoring one goal, as Villa made the playoff final.

The 20-year-old has represented England at every youth level up until the U20s so is clearly highly regarded, but Villa fans on Twitter were urging him to buck his ideas up and fulfil his potential after a lacklustre performance against Yeovil.

Rangers plot move to sign Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to bolster his squad with the addition of Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worral, The Daily Record reports.

What’s the word?

Seeking to maintain a superb start to the season, new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to strengthen further before the Scottish transfer window shuts next Friday and has set his sights on an England U21 international.

The Daily Record states Rangers want to sign Joe Worral from Nottingham Forest and have made an enquiry to the Championship side for a defender who captained England to victory in the prestigious Toulon Tournament in 2017.

Worral has slipped down the pecking order with Aitor Karanka’s side at the start of the new campaign and Forest are prepared to offload the 21-year-old, although Rangers will face competition in the market from Championship trio Aston Villa, West Brom and Stoke City.

Forest are likely to prefer a move that would see Worral move north of the border rather than to a direct Championship rival and the young defender could be set to become Gerrard’s 13th signing of the summer.

Is he a good fit?

Earning over 50 league appearances since making his Nottingham Forest debut two years ago, and accumulating three caps for England’s U21 side, Worral certainly has the experience to shine with Gerrard’s side.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”256211″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Ranger’s first six fixtures for the 201819 Scottish Premiership season”]

After making 31 appearances with Forest last season, Worral has tumbled down Karanka’s pecking order at the City Ground and a move to Rangers could appeal to all parties as it would allow the youngster to continue his development.

Forest’s signings of Michael Dawson and Michael Hefele have blocked Worral’s route into the first-team, which means a move to Rangers could hand him the chance to get back on track and may see him catch the eye of other clubs, with The Nottingham Post stating in January that Burnley were eyeing a swoop.

Considering the promise he has shown previously and the quality he clearly has on his day, he would be Gerrard’s best Rangers signing yet.

Celtic fans fume at Gordon performance vs Suduva

Loads of Celtic fans have been running the rule over the draw in Lithuania, and they’re really starting to get fed up with Craig Gordon.

Celtic’s miserable start to the European season continued on Thursday, drawing 1-1 with FK Suduva.

While 1-1 away from home is never a bad result in Europe, the Hoops really should be sweeping teams like this aside, especially after getting the early goal.

Olivier Ntcham gave Rodgers’ side the lead after just a few minutes, but the home side equalised just ten minutes later.

While much of the focus in recent weeks has been on the poor defending, plenty of fans are now bashing Gordon, whose poor distribution only heaps more pressure on the backline.

The 35-year-old has made over 150 appearances for Celtic since signing from Sunderland in 2014, but the cracks are starting to show ahead of his 36th birthday at the end of this year.

There are loads of problems for Rodgers to sort out at the back right now, but fans are starting to turn on Gordon in particular, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Player Zone: Joao Moutinho is a symbol of Wolves’ ambition and can help the club become something bigger

[ad_pod ]

When Wolverhampton Wanderers announced the signing of Joao Moutinho from Monaco for a fee in the region of £5 million it represented a major coup for the promoted club and highlighted their ambition.

The 31-year-old has accrued over 100 caps for the Portuguese national side in a career which has spanned trophy-laden spells with Sporting, Porto and the Principality club, prior to his arrival in the Midlands.

Moutinho has hit the ground running at Molineux and is already making his quality evident in the Premier League. In Wolves’ hard-fought draw against the odds in the match against Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions, Manchester City, the veteran midfielder was at the heart of his side’s fearless performance.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men weren’t content to park the bus against the team of visiting superstars, but instead took the game to City and attacked in numbers at every opportunity they got. Not only were they bold going forwards, they also demonstrated no shortage of class.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”285457″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Theatre Of Screams & The Serb As Good As Salah”]

Moutinho was central to this, as he worked and pressed tirelessly and was constantly calm and tidy in possession, thus ensuring that Wolves weren’t overrun in the middle of the park by their illustrious opponents.

The stats bear out the quality of Moutinho’s performance. The three tackles, one interception and single clearance he made are of evidence of the defensive shift he put in. His assist, from a total of two key passes – as many as anyone else wearing the famous old gold strip made – prove how instrumental he was to Wolves’ attacking play too.

Against the opponents to come, most of whom aren’t close to City in terms of quality, Moutinho has shown that he has the capacity to take games by the scruff of the neck.

Moutinho’s midfield partner and compatriot, Ruben Neves, was equally impressive against City. It is this partnership that Wolves fans will be hoping can continue to flourish throughout this season. If Neves himself, at only 21-years-old, can learn from his experienced partner this year then it bodes well for his future too.

Neves is a tremendously exciting young talent, who has already shown he is capable of shining in the top flight. This time spent playing alongside Moutinho will only help him develop quicker. Santo will be hoping that Moutinho proves himself as an effective mentor and can have a positive influence in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

Moutinho and Neves’ respective skillsets complement one another. Both are very comfortable on the ball and demonstrate an excellent passing range. Neves’ ability to break up opposition attacks and Moutinho’s talent for creating goalscoring opportunities for his teammates make them an ideal double pivot for turning defence into attack.

Wolves’ have shown plenty of ambition with their summer spending and attacking intent, and are very much a club looking up rather than down. If they are to be successful in establishing themselves as a Premier League side and then begin building upon that platform, then players such as Moutinho will be vital to that climb.

Aston Villa fans fume as Bruce allows Tommy Elphick to leave on loan

Aston Vila fans on Twitter were fuming with manager Steve Bruce after centre-back Tommy Elphick was allowed to leave the club on loan without a replacement coming in, leaving Villa looking very short of defensive options.

The 30-year-old had made three appearances in all competitions so far this season but his departure leaves just James Chester and loanee Axel Tuanzebe as the only recognised centre-backs at Villa Park. Bruce then will clearly be counting on midfielder Mile Jedinak and young right-back James Bree to adapt to the position that they have both appeared in at the start of this campaign.

Villa’s summer got off to a turbulent start as they lost the playoff final to Fulham and subsequently missed out on promotion and the riches of the Premier League. This plunged the club into financial difficulties and a winding-up order from HMRC was narrowly avoided before billionaires Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris bought a controlling stake in the club, saving them from administration under Dr Tony Xia.

While Villa fans can thank the new owners for this success, they were not happy at all with Bruce for allowing Elphick to leave, especially as the Englishman had even scored their first league goal of the season against his new club. Check out some of the best tweets from Villa fans below.

Revealed: 68% of West Brom fans polled want Moore to sign Robert Huth

[ad_pod ]

The majority of West Brom fans that voted in our poll were keen to see the club make a move for free-agent Robert Huth to bolster Darren Moore’s options at the back.

Moore started the season with a back four but after the Baggies conceded six goals in their first three games, the 44-year-old boss deployed a three at the back formation in the Carabao Cup tie with Luton Town and the West Midlands side kept their first clean sheet of the campaign.

West Brom now sit in ninth place in the Premier League after Moore stuck with the tactic and the club’s fortunes improved, but if he persists with three centre-backs he may have to bring in reinforcements to offer the current squad members a rest.

Huth was released by Leicester during the summer as the Foxes signed three new centre-backs, including West Brom’s Jonny Evans but even as a 34-year-old, 68% of the West Brom fans who voted in our poll thought Huth, a three-time Premier League winner, could do a job for the Baggies. Jack Harrison has a perfect opportunity to shine in Pablo Hernandez’s absence

Leeds United have done incredibly well to cope with their injury problems so far this season, but their resilience was finally broken on Saturday afternoon as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to hold off on a handful of signings during the summer in favour of keeping his squad as a tightly-knit group appeared to backfire recently when a handful of players fell victim to injury problems.

The likes of Patrick Bamford, Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez were all ruled out within a short space of time but, despite the concerns of some supporters, the Whites have coped well with the growing injury list and they remain top of the pile after 9 fixtures.

But a recent update on the club’s website makes for unfortunate viewing as both Roofe and Hernandez will remain sidelined for two-three and four-five weeks respectively.

Although Hernandez’s absence represents a huge blow for the club as a whole, it has given summer signing Harrison (valued at £3.15 million by Transfermarkt) an opportunity to showcase his potential on the right-wing and, despite a slow start, he is beginning to impress.

Plenty was expected of Harrison when he arrived at Elland Road from Manchester City, but he looked a level below what is required after coming on at half-time against Swansea City in August.

Fast-forward a few weeks and Harrison looks like a new player with the confidence and technical ability to become an integral part of Leeds’ promotion push.

With Hernandez ruled out for another month at the very least, Harrison has a dream opportunity to cement his name on Bielsa’s team sheet but he will need to step up another level in order to prove he has what it takes to keep the Spanish veteran on the substitutes bench upon his return to fitness.

The 21-year-old’s strike against Millwall provided a brief glimpse of what he can provide at Elland Road and with Hernandez sidelined he must showcase that level of quality on a consistent basis if he wants to prove himself to Bielsa.

Arsenal considering move for Monaco’s Youri Tielemans

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal are considering a swoop to bring Youri Tielemans to the Emirates Stadium, according to CalcioMercato.

What’s the word?

Unai Emery placed a lot of focus into Arsenal’s midfield during the summer, signing Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi while seeing fan favourites Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla bring their time at the Emirates Stadium to a close.

While the Gunners boast a strong contingent with the two new additions alongside Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey, the uncertain future of the latter could see Emery dip into the market once again.

According to CalcioMercato, Belgium international Youri Tielemans is on the radar of the North London side and the Gunners are keen to take advantage of what the report says are lack of opportunities under Leonardo Jardim.

Should Arsenal move?

Firstly, it is worth addressing the ‘lack of opportunities’ Tielemans has at Monaco that seems to be a driving force behind Arsenal’s reported interest in the 21-year-old former Anderlecht man, as that is simply not the case.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”300259″ player=”12034″ title=”Mo Salah’s “7th Best Goal” Wins FIFA’s Puskas Award”]

Tielemans has featured in all of Monaco’s seven Ligue 1 games so far this season, scoring two goals, and also featured in the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid – starting every match during that period, which raises questions as to whether the French principality side would want to sell.

Secondly, Tielemans is a more defensive-minded midfielder than Ramsey and can therefore not be seen as a direct replacement for the Wales international, while his arrival could also block the developments of both Torreira and Guendouzi.

Therefore, Arsenal should really be looking elsewhere if they are to replace Ramsey and a player who thrives in a more advanced role would be a better fit for the Gunners.

Tottenham fans heap praise on Winks display vs Barcelona

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham fans have been reacting to their defeat to Barcelona, and they’re taking a lot of promise from the performance of Harry Winks.

Winks’ performance vs Real Madrid last season will stand out long in the memory of every Tottenham supporter, but the young Englishman didn’t have quite the same display against Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Catalan giants took the lead almost immediately after a mistake from Hugo Lloris, and Ivan Rakitic doubled the lead before half-time with an incredible volley.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”302569″ player=”12034″ title=”The Last Time Man Utd Started A Season So Badly”]

Lionel Messi’s second-half brace ensured goals from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela were only consolations, but the improved display of Winks in the second half has got fans talking.

The 22-year-old was completely overrun in the first half, but steadily grew into the game after the interval.

Playing against the likes of Sergio Busquets will only make him stronger, and fans are loving his second-half display, which included one particularly fantastic tackle to stop a rampaging Messi.
