Leeds United fans advise owner against flag ‘spectacle’

It has become custom in cup finals for flags of the respective teams to be placed on stadium seats for fans to wave.

The gesture is not widely regarded as a positive one by supporters, though, with some feeling that any club’s following should not need encouragement to cheer for their team.

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has been a welcome face among the club’s hierarchy following Massimo Cellino’s controversial term.

However, the Italian has faced some criticism from fans for backing plans to give supporters flags to wave during this weekend’s Championship game against Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

As well as that, the club have arranged for a mosaic to be displayed on the lower section of the East Stand prior to kickoff.

Radrizzani shared Leeds’ tweet about this weekend’s fixture, adding that the fans need to show their ‘love and passion’.

Unfortunately for the businessman, a large number of replies that he received had a negative tone.

Celtic fans want to see more of Ntcham after Anderlecht performance

Celtic’s UEFA Champions League campaign is over and while they have European football to look forward to after Christmas, their last group stage match didn’t exactly go to plan.

The match against Anderlecht was a chance for Brendan Rodgers’ side to prove they have what it takes to make an impact in the knockout stages of the Europa League, but the Belgians impressed with a 1-0 victory, much to the frustration of Celtic supporters.

Three seasons have now passed without a home victory in the group stage of a European competition, a record that goes against the reputation that Celtic Park once had as a fortress at that level.

In the context of the group, Tuesday night’s match mattered little but it was still an under-par performance, leaving fans looking for more.

One player that did impress was Olivier Ntcham, who came on at half-time for the unimpressive Stuart Armstrong.

The French U21 international was the Hoops’ best player in the second half, his range of passing and composed midfield play one of the few positives from the night.

Supporters are now calling for him to get an extended run in the team and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

West Ham confident of securing Vazquez deal

According to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham United are quietly confident that they will be able to bring Sevilla’s Franco Vazquez to the club in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

New West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has already been extremely busy in this summer’s market, and Jack Wilshere became the latest player to seal a move to the Hammers on Monday afternoon.

[ad_pod ]

Following a difficult 2017-18 campaign for a number of reasons, it seems that the club’s supporters have plenty to be excited about ahead of the new season.

Pellegrini has improved his defensive options with the arrivals of Ryan Fredericks and Issa Diop, but the former Manchester City boss is still believed to be interested in signing at least two more attackers this summer.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham have already made contact with Sevilla attacker Vazquez over a potential move to the English capital, and the Hammers are quietly confident that they will be able to complete a deal.

Would Vazquez be a good signing?

In Wilshere, West Ham have another player who could potentially play in the number 10 role next season, but Manuel Lanzini will miss a chunk of the campaign with a knee problem.

Vazquez, who stands at 6ft 1in, is capable of operating both as an attacking midfielder and as a second striker, and the 29-year-old scored four times and registered six assists in 30 La Liga appearances last term.

The Italy international joined Sevilla in 2016 having scored 22 times in just over 100 appearances in all competitions for Palermo.

It would be fair to say that Vazquez has played his best football in Italy, and Sevilla might well be prepared to sell this summer if the price is right.

West Ham are entering a new era under the leadership of Pellegrini, and the acquisition of classy and experienced attacker Vazquez would be another fine piece of business.

Nottingham Forest will have to spend big to sign Martyn Waghorn, but is he necessary?

Nottingham Forest have been told they will have to shell out if they want to sign Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn according to The Nottingham Post.

What’s the story?

The 28-year-old only joined the Tractor Boys last summer and had a fine season in the Championship, scoring 16 goals and making 11 assists in 44 league appearances.

According to the report, Ipswich manager Paul Hurst has made it clear that it will take a huge bid for the club to part with their star forward after they paid £250,ooo to sign him from Rangers last summer.

Worth testing Ipswich’s bottle?

Nottingham Forest have had a very busy transfer window and have bolstered their attacking options with the signings of Lewis Grabban and Joao Carvalho.

Waghorn did have a fine season and he would make add even more potency up top, but Forest must start deciding when enough is enough, as sometimes too many new additions can upset the balance of the team.

Forget Kyle Walker, Manchester City should add this world class right back to their squad

Manchester City face the enviable task of finding it difficult to improve their squad this summer, such is the quality contained within the ranks of the Premier League title winners.

Pep Guardiola is the man tasked with doing such a job, and he will find it difficult to make improvements to a squad who dominated last term.

However, there is room for improvement, and one player who might find himself under threat or even moved position, is England man Kyle Walker, who despite impressing, still shows signs of fragility in terms of the defensive side of his game.

One player we think City could sign in place of Walker is German star Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich is simply a step above Walker in terms of quality, and at just 23, could make the right back slot his own at the Etihad.

Despite not having the best time with Germany over in Russia this summer, Kimmich is still recognised as one of the best in the world in his position, and rightly so.

A classy operator, Kimmich would improve the squad and first team at City no end, and would be a massive signing for the club. Quick, dangerous in attack, and crucially, solid in defence, Kimmich would be a superb addition to a squad already rich with talented players.

Leeds fans furious with club’s lack of signings

Leeds United will begin their 2018-19 Championship campaign with a clash against Stoke City on August 5.

The new season really is only just around the corner, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa has thus far been frustrated in the transfer market.

The Whites have managed to secure the loan signings of Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman from Chelsea, but have been frustrated in their pursuit of a number of transfer targets – including Derby County’s Matej Vydra.

Leeds announced on Friday that defender Liam Kitching had signed a new contract with the club before re-joining Harrogate Town on loan.

And the news went down like an absolute lead balloon.

That is not to say that the Leeds fans were not pleased for 18-year-old Kitching, but they are becoming increasingly frustrated with their club’s lack of permanent signings.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the club’s unhappy supporters can be seen below:

Leeds fans want Saiz sold this summer

Leeds United finished their preparations for the 2018-19 campaign with a 1-0 win over Spanish outfit Las Palmas on Sunday.

It seems incredible that the new season is now upon us, and Leeds will open their Championship challenge against Stoke City on Sunday afternoon.

It has not quite been the transfer window that the Leeds fans have wanted thus far, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa still has time to improve his squad.

Samuel Saiz’s future is an interesting one, with the 27-year-old scoring nine times and eight appearances for Leeds last term following a move from Huesca.

There is absolutely no question that the attacker is a talent, but amid reported interest from Valencia, it seems that the Leeds fans would be happy for him to be sold in this summer’s transfer window.

Saiz – valued at £3.1m by Transfermarkt – is a game-changer for Leeds on his day, but it certainly appears that the club’s supporters would rather have the money.

Obiang would be the ideal link between defence and attack for Fulham

Fulham have made an offer for West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

What’s the word?

The Cottagers’ transfer activity will certainly have sent a message to their rivals ahead of the club’s Premier League return.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side has been bolstered with the additions of six new faces, including Jean-Michael Seri, Andre Schurrle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Now, according to Tuttomercatoweb, the London club have turned their attention to West Ham’s Obiang, who is also reportedly wanted by Sampdoria.

If Fulham want to get this deal over the line, then they will have to move quickly as the transfer window closes in four days’ time.

Is Obiang right for Fulham?

In order to survive in the Premier League, the Cottagers need a figure in the middle of the park that can flit between defence and attack.

Obiang has the qualities to fulfil that role, particularly as he can cause an impact in both areas of the pitch.

When trying to stop the opposition from finding a way through, the midfielder tends to be in the right place at the right time to intercept passes and block shots.

Obiang is also rarely muscled off the ball when in possession, and in terms of his attacking contribution, he can read the game well and offer support to his forward teammates.

Newcastle should already plan for the January window and sign this Chelsea man

Newcastle United eventually finished the transfer window with something of a flourish, with manager Rafa Benitez finally adding some names to his squad.

The Spaniard managed to get deals over the like for the likes of Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto, and Federico Fernandez, all players who should instantly strengthen the ranks at St James’ Park.

The Magpies finished tenth last season under Benitez, a tremendous effort given the squad available, and this year they will be looking to build further and make a fist of cracking the top eight in the Premier League.

However, to do so, they need more players throughout the course of the season, and we at the Transfer Tavern think a move for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen might be something what can come to fruition in the winter window.

The Danish defender is likely to not be a regular under Maurizio Sarri, with the likes of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz looking the main two central defenders at the moment, and Christiansen will not want to sit about and be on the bench after what was an excellent campaign for him last term.

Moving to the northeast and forming a long term partnership with Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles could well appeal to the Blues defender, and regular first team football will only aid his development further.

Christiansen proved himself to be a class act last term, and if Newcastle can make a move for him come January, they would have quite the player on their hands.

Newcastle fans, what do you think? Would you take Christiansen? Let us know!
