Bowlers pose rare conundrum, snapping at the heels of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood

James Pattinson, Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle and Mitchell Marsh impress on day two

Haddin XII 105 and 170 (Warner 58, Marsh 5-34, Pattinson 3-19) lead Hick XII 120 (Cummins 5-24, Siddle 4-31) and 35 for 2 by 120 runsClearer as Australia’s Ashes squad has become over the past two days of rough and tumble cricket on a sporting pitch at Southampton, another conundrum has been raised about the composition of the team to be chosen from within it.For most of the past three years, the joint inclusion of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins has been the most straightforward element of Australian team selection, fitness permitting, of course. As three pacemen of varying heights, trajectories and bowling arms, they have often complemented each other perfectly – no more so than during the previous Ashes series in Australia in 2017-18.England, however, poses a different conditional challenge, and on the evidence of this internal trial match and warm-up, a rather different balance may be more suited to surfaces that will offer grass to grip the Dukes ball and boundaries that will punish anything even slightly wayward. In similar climes prepared for the Australian team in conjunction with Hampshire, albeit somewhat drier than the tourists may have wanted, the outstanding bowling displays were provided by James Pattinson, Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle and, last but not least, Mitchell Marsh.Starc and Hazlewood, by contrast, looked sore after the World Cup and short of rhythm after injury respectively, with only a week remaining to find their best touch. Starc, having looked ginger at times on day one, batted but did not bowl on the second evening, nor was he seen on the field of play.Starc’s obvious soreness was enough to force a precautionary scan. “Mitchell Starc experienced some discomfort in his right knee during the ongoing game and as a precaution it was deemed prudent to get it checked out so he went for a scan this evening [Wednesday],” a spokesman said. “The scan revealed nothing unexpected and he is expected to bowl on the final day of the match in Southampton.”Even if Hazlewood and Starc do recall some of their best over the next seven days, the question remains open as to whether the Dukes ball and English grass will be more favourable to Siddle and Pattinson – apt to bowl in tandem for both Victoria and Australia – alongside Cummins and his sharp, bouncing trajectory. This discussion will, doubtless, be difficult. Both Darren Lehmann and Rod Marsh, the selectors on duty during the 2015 Ashes, have both remarked in hindsight the difficulty of finding a way to include Siddle at the expense of one of Starc, Hazlewood or Mitchell Johnson four years ago, even though the Victorian’s skills looked ideally suited to England. When he did belatedly play at The Oval, Siddle was key to an innings victory that felt all the more empty for arriving too late to impact the series. At the same time, there is the matter of balancing prevailing conditions with overall records, and team chemistry. How, for instance, might a brooding Starc react to omission so soon after he had been the fulcrum of Australia’s World Cup pace attack. Whatever the final call, it now looks essential that room must be found for Pattinson, who combined speed, bounce, movement and hostility with the sort of economy that will suffocate England even when wickets do not arrive so frequently. His match figures of 4 for 35 from 23 overs were highly convincing.Other variables from day two included a low score for Marnus Labuschagne after a promising one the day before; a second brief stay for Kurtis Patterson, Joe Burns, Marcus Harris and Travis Head, handy contributions from Will Pucovski and Alex Carey, and a highly competent half-century from David Warner, by some distance the highest score of the match.Warner’s innings was compelling in how secure he looked, ending only with a miscued pull shot at Chris Tremain that was significant in itself – in a match where edges, lbws and bowleds have been frequent, Warner was the only batsman on either side to fall to catches in front of the wicket: his defence was that sound.Marsh, thought to be in a race with Labuschagne for a single allrounder’s spot, did his chances very little harm by bowling skilfully and briskly with the older ball, defeating Head on the crease from around the wicket and going on to clean up the tail with some panache. His bowling was also useful in 2015, leaving only questions about how he has progressed as a batsman. In the final hour, Cameron Bancroft made a useful start to help the Hick XII build a platform for victory in pursuit of 156 to win. These were significant moments for Bancroft, who by a combination of his own contributions and also the failures of others may find himself nabbing one of the last remaining spots in the touring party that will be named on Friday.

Saliba 2.0 & £80m striker: Arsenal’s dazzling XI once Nwaneri becomes a regular

Arsenal have done a tremendous job completely overhauling their team in recent seasons.

The team that Mikel Arteta inherited in 2019 and the one that he has today are a million miles apart in terms of quality, and while they haven't quite got their hands on that elusive Premier League title yet, it feels more like a matter of when and not if with this current crop of stars.

However, football is a fast-moving business, and while fans will be gleefully enjoying the dazzling displays of their current players, the club, Arteta and Edu, will already be putting in the work and planning for the next iteration of this side for a few years time.

It's unlikely that there will be too many significant changes to the XI in the next couple of seasons, but by the time the 2027/28 season gets underway, there could be a few new faces lighting it up at the Emirates, notably Hale End prodigy Ethan Nwaneri, who looks set for a very bright future at Arsenal.

With that in mind, here is Arsenal's starting XI for the 2027/28 season, when Nwaneri could well be a regular starter in the side.

1 GK – David Raya – 31

So, the number one in Arteta's all-conquering Arsenal side for the 2027/28 season will be none other than David Raya.

He might still be at the club on loan this season, and failing a cataclysmic end to the campaign, it seems written in stone that the club will make his deal permanent.

Moreover, despite a rocky start to life in N5 – to put it diplomatically – the former Blackburn Rovers ace has been quietly putting in some impressive performances at the Emirates, and at 31 years old by the time the season kicks off, he should be completely at home in north London.

2 RB – Jeremie Frimpong – 26

Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong

The first change in the team comes at right-back, as the trustworthy Ben White makes way for the explosive and thrilling Jeremie Frimpong.

There have been fairly consistent reports in recent months that the Gunners will look to activate the rapid full-back's £34m release clause in the summer, and with nine goals and ten assists in 28 appearances this season, it's not hard to see why.

The Dutchman's arrival wouldn't necessarily spell the end of White's Arsenal career either, as the Englishman's impressive versatility could see him fill in across the backline and pick up a good number of appearances each season doing so.

However, with U23 scout Antonio Mango claiming that Frimpong "has no ceiling" and the impressive performances he has already put in for Bayer Leverkusen, this looks like a transfer that could take the club to another level.

3 CB – Reuell Walters – 22

Another change to the current team can be found at right centre-back as Hale End gem Reuell Walters could well break into the first team and make the position his own in the coming years.

The young Englishman is an incredibly gifted defender and is adept as both a centre-back and a right-back. Still, with slightly more games under his belt as the former, and Oleksandr Zinchenko expressing how "impressed" he was with his strength, he might have a better chance at the centre of defence.

Moreover, data analyst Ben Mattinson has already described the youngster as a "mini-less refined Saliba at RCB", crediting his "good agility", "passing ability", tackling and "good positioning" as the traits that could see him develop into a top central defender.

And hey, what's better than one William Saliba? You get the rest.

4 CB – William Saliba – 26

leny-yoro-william-saliba-liverpool-opinion

Speak of the devil.

There is no prize for guessing who takes the left centre-back spot in this XI: the indomitable Saliba.

The Frenchman is arguably the most essential member of the team – just look at what happened when he got injured last season – and with him set to still only be 26 years old at the start of the 2027/28 season, it would be unimaginable for Arteta not to select the 6 foot 4 titan.

Aside from injury, the only reason that he might not be in the XI in three and a half years is because a side like Real Madrid have offered the club untold riches for his signature.

5 LB – Takehiro Tomiyasu – 28

Starting on the left of the Gunners' defence will be Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 25-year-old will be 28 at the time, and if he can remain injury-free, he might well overtake Oleksandr Zinchenko as Arteta's go-to left-back option.

He might not have the passing range of the Ukrainian, but he is an undeniably more sound defensive option, and with Frimpong either marauding down the right flank or cutting inside to help with attacks, Arteta will need his left-back to be more defensively minded and potentially move into a back three when in possession.

6 DM – Declan Rice – 28

Another absolute no-brainer is Declan Rice, as the midfield "dominator", as talent scout Jacek Kulig dubbed him, simply has to retain his place at the base of midfield.

The former West Ham United captain has been a revelation for the Gunners since making his £105m switch in the summer, and with how the fans have taken to him, it would be shocking to see him leave in such a short time.

7 CM – Martin Odegaard – 28

The man starting just ahead of Rice, in the eight role that glides from the base of midfield to the edge of the opposition's penalty area, is none other than captain fantastic himself, Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian maestro currently starts just ahead of the team's eight – Kai Havertz – but he has never really been a traditional ten – something highlighted in his heat map – and he has already played 35 games for Arsenal in a more central role.

Additionally, with the likes of Rice, Saliba, Tomiyasu and Walters directly behind him, his job would focus more on getting the ball up the pitch, late runs into the penalty area and recycling possession in midfield.

8 AM – Ethan Nwaneri – 20

Now, the reason that Odegaard will be set to start that little bit deeper in this XI is down to this man, Ethan Nwaneri.

The Hale End star is only 16 years old at the moment, but when the 2027/28 season rolls around, he'll be 20, and while that might still seem relatively young, his performances for the youth teams and his overall reputation paint a very, very promising picture.

The Enfield-born prospect already has 20 goals and nine assists to his name in just 42 appearances across the various youth sides, and with an ability to play as a striker or an attacking midfielder, he seems destined to break into the first team sooner rather than later.

Described as "a true goal-scorer" by Ben Mattinson, while he might be useful up top, he'll be able to have far more influence over proceedings from an attacking midfield role – just think of that Nwaneri Saka link-up.

9 RW – Bukayo Saka – 25

Rightwing is perhaps the most obvious choice in the entire XI, and, of course, it has to be Hale End superstar Bukayo Saka.

The fan favourite – to put it mildly – will only be 25 years old by the time the season kicks off, and considering he has already racked up 100 goal involvements for the Gunners at age 22, you'd be a fool to bet against him potentially doubling or even tripling that by the start of the 2027/28 season.

Saka is so interwoven with everything good at Arsenal, and the idea that he wouldn't be a star player five or even ten years from now is unconscionable.

10 ST – Ivan Toney – 31

Brentford'sIvanToneyduring the warm up before the match

The Gunners will have a new face leading the line for the start of the 2027/28 season, and it looks destined to be Brentford's Ivan Toney.

The Englishman has been touted for a move to the Emirates for years now, but the links and rumours have gone into overdrive in the last few months, and while a move didn't materialise in January, an £80m – or less – move in the summer looks like a real possibility.

If he can get even close to replicating his form from the 2022/23 season, in which he scored 20 goals in 33 games for Brentford, then Arsenal will surely end their title drought sooner rather than later.

Man Utd struck gold with “insanely good” gem who’s value has soared 168%

Manchester United’s questionable transfer history over the past decade has been frequently highlighted by the underperformance of those individuals on the field.

Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, and Antony are all examples of stars who have flopped since signing for huge fees.

However, there are a few players who have been hits since joining and have even risen in value.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the star in Erik ten Hag’s squad who has been a success since joining.

Diogo Dalot’s early career at Man United

Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot joined United in 2018 from Porto after impressing as a flying right-back in just eight games for the first team, where he provided three assists and was “insanely good,” as per Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig.

Jose Mourinho forked out £19m to acquire the youngster's services, and in his first season, he started 12 league games, featuring as both a right back and a left back.

Diogo Dalot

In the following season, Dalot was sent on loan to AC Milan, where he once again interchanged between both full-back positions over 33 matches.

His return from Italy saw the former Porto star feature much more frequently in the United starting XI, featuring in 19 games from the off, and at the end of the 2021/22 season, he was estimated to be worth close to the amount that United signed him for – €20m (£17m), as per Transfermarkt.

Diogo Dalot under Ten Hag

The arrival of Ten Hag has seen the 24-year-old enjoy his best spell with the Red Devils badge on his chest, as last season he started 24 matches, scored one goal, and registered two assists.

With the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for most of the season, Dalot has been a consistent performer for the boss this time around, starting 22 games already in the league and becoming the first-choice right-back.

Diogo Dalot

According to CIES Football Observatory, Dalot is now estimated to be worth £51m, with his increased inclusion in the starting XI seeing his value rocket this season, to the point where he’s one of the most valuable assets in the squad.

One of the main reasons why his value is so high is simply due to his versatility, which allows him to thrive at both right and left back. Not many full-backs have the ability to perform with both feet while being press-resistant at the same time, and with Luke Shaw’s continuous injury problems, having Dalot in the squad gives Ten Hag so much breathing room in terms of squad selection.

Dalot can also drift into plenty of different roles, and he isn’t restricted to just one playing style. For example, he can drift inside to overload the midfield while also providing options on the overlap, which is extremely desirable in modern football.

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

Identifying these traits and attributes early on in Dalot’s career was a masterstroke, and signing him for just £19m – a value that has now increased by 168% – has been one of the best deals in recent times for United.

Somerset's quest for treble stumbles despite Steven Davies' unbeaten 89

Such is the romance that has come to be associated with Somerset’s quest for their first County Championship in 144 years of history that lovers of cricket are cancelling September holidays in the hope of being at Taunton to witness a doubtless tearful celebration.Whether it will be worth it remains in the balance. As things stand, the side they will meet in the last fixture of the season, the 2017 winners Essex, who beat them at Chelmsford in June, are in pole position. Four matches remain after this isolated, mid-Blast round, yet Somerset could do without losing ground at this moment. They might not find it easy to prevent that happening. Having winkled out two important wickets in the final session of the opening day, when Sam Hain and Adam Hose were dismissed before they were able to inflict too much damage, they picked up an early bonus on day two when Rob Yates, whose maiden century had been the thorn in their flesh on Sunday, was out to only the seventh delivery of the morning.Yet their bowlers failed to build on that, gaining only one extra bonus point and, more importantly in the context of potentially taking the 16 points for a win, allowing Warwickshire, themselves casting anxious glances at the one team behind them in the Division One table, the luxury of passing 400 for only the second time this season. Then came a pretty torrid start to their reply, encompassing three wickets lost for 15 runs between the eighth over and the 11th, including a first-ball duck for Babar Azam, their Vitality Blast star, on his red-ball debut for the county.By the close, they had recovered to a degree, thanks in large part to Steven Davies, who showed his adaptability by opening in a rejigged top order and willingness to graft as necessary in finishing 11 runs short of a hundred. Somerset, though, are still 103 runs away from the follow-on target and lost George Bartlett in the penultimate over, a moment of celebration for 19-year-old debutant George Garrett in claiming his maiden first-class wicket.Jack Brooks had made what they had hoped would be a decisive morning breakthrough as Yates, stretching to drive, edged to gully. When the former Yorkshire seamer followed up by having Tim Ambrose caught behind four overs later to claim the second bowling bonus point in the 102nd over, all looked well.Helped by a remarkable gully catch by Roelof van der Merwe as Henry Brookes somehow offered him a leading edge as he shaped to clip Jamie Overton to the short Hollies Stand boundary on his leg side – which he had already cleared with a square cut off Brookes – Somerset had the seventh wicket at 338 in the 107th over and were into the Warwickshire tail. And it did look more like a tail than is customary in a team that generally bats deep, with Oliver Hannon-Dalby making a rare appearance at No. 10 ahead Garrett. In the event, it was a while before they had a look at either, thanks primarily to Michael Burgess, who made it his business to use the aforementioned short boundary to his advantage whenever the Somerset bowlers gave him the opportunity, hitting 52 off 58 balls in a manner that was very easy on the eye.He and his captain, Jeetan Patel, added 66 in 13 overs to claim a fourth batting point and take the total beyond 400, to which Hannon-Dalby celebrated his promotion by making his first score in double figures since he giddily hit 11 not out and 13 against the same opponents at Taunton in May. At the other end, young Garrett manfully survived 22 deliveries to mark his maiden first-class innings with a red-inker and two runs.As if that were not enough to furrow Somerset brows, a positive response in terms of quick runs on the board was rapidly undermined as Tom Abell was bowled shouldering arms and Hannon-Dalby continued to influence the game by gaining the desired reward for bowling into James Hildreth’s pads. He then reaped an unexpected bonus when Babar, who has been drafted into Somerset’s red-ball team in place of his compatriot Azhar Ali, clipped a legside half-volley direct to midwicket.Azhar’s return to Pakistan for a training camp meant a rejigged top order with Davies opening with Abell. Happily for Somerset, he looked comfortable in the roll from the outset, anchoring a 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket that ended when Tom Banton edged behind off Will Rhodes, who was unlucky during an impressive spell when Tim Ambrose was not quite able to grasp an inside edge offered by Davies on 72.

Farke must ease Summerville blow by unleashing £25k-p/w Leeds star

Leeds United have a chance to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as they travel from Yorkshire to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The Whites overcame Plymouth Argyle, after extra-time, in the last round to set up this tie against the Premier League outfit, who lost the League Cup final to Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday.

Daniel Farke's side are currently vying for promotion back to the top-flight as they sit second in the Championship table, following on from their 3-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night.

Daniel Farke.

It remains to seen whether they see tonight's match as a welcome distraction or one that could knock their momentum in the league. The answer to that could be found in the German head coach's team selection if he does or does not rest a number of key players.

However, the former Norwich City boss could be forced to drop some of his key performers due to a number of injury issues picked up since the last match.

Latest Leeds team news

Farke revealed in his pre-match press conference that three of his attacking players may not be available for the trip to Stamford Bridge this evening.

Star winger Crysencio Summerville rolled his ankle and the manager has claimed that the Dutch gem "might" not be fit to face the Blues in the FA Cup.

The former Feyenoord youngster is not the only potential absentee for the Whites, though, as Patrick Bamford has minor calf and ankle injuries that he is currently dealing with.

His absence would come as a blow for the side as it would limit the head coach's options at the top end of the pitch. He has also been in fantastic form of late, with two goals in his last two league appearances, and could have been a difference-maker with his quality in front of goal.

Farke has also revealed that Georginio Rutter has a hip flexor problem that means that he will be forced to make a late decision on his involvement in the match.

As you can see in the table above, the French magician has been in fantastic form for Leeds in the second tier this season, particularly as a creative threat for the side, which is why it would also be a blow to lose him for this clash with Chelsea.

The manager may not want to risk any of those three players if they injuries to deal with as he may not want to cause further injury issues for them ahead of crucial Championship matches for the sake of a cup game.

With this in mind, Summerville must now be risked and should be left out of the squad, or on the bench, to avoid losing him for a longer period of time.

Whilst not starting the Dutchman is not ideal, given his form this season, Farke could ease the blow by unleashing Jaidon Anthony from the start.

Crysencio Summerville's electric form

The 22-year-old star has been a fantastic performer for Leeds throughout the Championship season so far as both a scorer and a creator of goals.

Crysencio Summerville.

He has racked up 15 goals from an Expected Goals of 12.09 across 31 appearances in the second tier, which shows that the talented whiz has been ruthless in front of goal as a finisher.

Summerville has rarely missed a good opportunity to find the back of the net, as shown by his overperformance in comparison to the quality of chances, and is currently the top scorer within the squad.

The Whites star has also provided creativity for his teammates with 9.42 Expected Assists and eight assists, along with 16 'big chances' created and 2.9 key passes per game.

This suggests that his fellow attackers have let him down at times as they have not made the best of the opportunities that he has been able to create for them in the Championship.

Only Rutter (12) has provided more assists than Summerville for Leeds, whilst no player within the squad has produced more goals and assists combined than the Dutch gem (23) has so far.

Why Jaidon Anthony could ease Summerville blow

The Whites swooped to sign Anthony on loan from Bournemouth last summer but the English winger has not had too many chances to impress.

Summerville's electric form has prevented the Cherries ace from starting matches on a regular basis but that does not mean that he is not an excellent option for Farke to call upon.

The £25k-per-week wizard has only started two of his 23 appearances in the Championship – scoring one goal. However, he started both games against Plymouth in the fourth round and caught the eye on the left wing.

As you can see in the table above, Anthony provided a big threat as both a scorer and a creator in those two matches and was unfortunate not to register an assist from the eight chances that he created for his teammates.

The talented gem, who was once hailed as "first-class" by ex-boss Scott Parker, also showcased his attacking quality in the Championship for Bournemouth during the 2021/22 campaign, as they won promotion to the Premier League.

He scored eight goals, provided seven assists, and created 18 'big chances' in 45 appearances in the second tier for the Cherries as they finished second.

The 24-year-old ace ranked within the top 10% of attacking midfielders and wingers within the division for Expected Assisted Goals (0.25) per 90, and the top 8% for shot-creating actions (4.26) per 90, which shows that not many players made a greater impact in the final third in his position.

These statistics, and his form in the fourth round of the FA Cup this season, suggest that Anthony does have the quality to make a big impact at the top end of the pitch, as a scorer and a creator, when he is at his best.

Whether or not the young speedster can reach his top form tonight remains to be seen but unleashing him from the start could ease the injury blow to Summerville, should Anthony showcase the best of his abilities.

Jasprit Bumrah's game sense is his most striking feature – Andy Roberts

Curtly Ambrose, meanwhile, has likened Bumrah to his old mate Courtney Walsh for his ability to adjust his lengths according to conditions

Jasprit Bumrah’s 5 for 7 – the least expensive five-wicket haul by an Indian in Tests – helped hurry India towards a record 318-run win over West Indies in Antigua. That five-for also helped Bumrah become the first bowler from Asia to take five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. And beyond the numbers, he impressed two Antiguan fast-bowling greats – Andy Roberts and Curtly Ambrose – with his clarity of thought, game sense and aggression. So impressed was Roberts that, in an interview with the , he called Bumrah the “best Indian fast bowler I have seen”.”In my time, it was all spin,” he said, thinking back to the India attacks of the past. “Good ones, but they wouldn’t win you matches overseas. India had Kapil Dev and some others, but we never thought they could produce someone as lethal as Bumrah. He’s the best Indian fast bowler I have seen.”Roberts, part of the great pace quartets that also included Michael Holding, Joel Garner, Colin Croft and Malcolm Marshall, described how Bumrah’s unorthodox run-up and action broke the mental rhythm of batsmen as they prepared to face him. But what made the India bowler truly special, he felt, was his game sense and thinking, which belie the fact that he only made his Test debut in January 2018, and has only played only 11 games in the format.”When a bowler is running in, you should look at the batsmen. They are settling into a mental rhythm of their own in their mind,” Roberts said. “They are visualising the bowler, his action, the leap, the load-up, the release and things like that. Their thought processes are conditioned in such a way that if he’s a side-on bowler, the ball will come like that, if it’s high-arm it would come in a different way. Or the longer the run-up, the quicker the ball will be. With Bumrah, the batsmen have little time to get into their mental rhythm.”Look at everything else he does, he’s classical. He moves two balls into the batsmen, and the other one goes away. Then two away from him, and then one into him. This is how we did, this is how fast bowlers have operated over the years. But the best one knows how, where and when to bowl. And Bumrah seems to have this awareness, which usually takes a lot of time to develop, a lot of experience. But how old is he? How many Tests has he played? He’s a quick learner, isn’t he?”To me, it has been the most striking feature of him. Some call it maturity. I call it game sense. There seems to be clarity in his thinking, and that automatically shows in his bowling. Some bowlers, very skillful ones, don’t develop it even 10 years after they had played the game. That’s the biggest thing for a fast bowler, to learn how to use your head.”Jasprit Bumrah is swarmed by his team-mates•Getty Images

The game sense also impressed Ambrose, who said Bumrah’s ability to size up and adjust his lengths according to surfaces and batsmen reminded him of his long-time new-ball partner Courtney Walsh.”He’s good at varying his lengths, depending on the surfaces and batsmen,” Ambrose told the . “I saw that in the World Cup, how he adjusted (and altered) his lengths according to the conditions and batsmen. That makes life difficult for batsmen.”(In this regard), he reminds me a bit of Courtney (Walsh) a bit. He was wonderful in sizing up the length and bowling accordingly.”Ambrose also said Bumrah’s quiet demeanour did not make him any less aggressive on the field.”I’m not talking about body language here. I’m not talking about being hostile. Aggression is not always about what you show outwards. Some show, some don’t. It depends on the individual’s nature,” Ambrose said. “To me, it’s about how you bowl, the aggression of the delivery. And Bumrah shows a lot of it.”Could Bumrah have fitted into the fearsome West Indies attacks of the past?Roberts suggested Bumrah’s unconventional action would have added a different dimension to the attacks he was part of.”It’s the strangest action that I have seen on a cricket field,” he said. “I need to study that for a longer time to understand the mechanics of his action. But if he were born here back in our days, we would have had him. A freak was the only element missing in our bowling line-up. In fact, Bumrah is the only variety of bowler we had never produced. Then I don’t think even India would produce one like him again.”Ambrose went even further in his praise.”At times, he rekindles memories of our prime,” he said. “The pace, aggression, the hostility, the craft. The way he outclasses the batsmen, the way he out-thinks them. He could have been one of us, he’s so complete a bowler that he could have played in any era.”
