Manchester United: Red Devils release nine academy players but Angel Gomes remains at Old Trafford

Manchester United have confirmed that nine of their academy players will be released next week when their contracts expire.

The Red Devils announced that, as per Manchester Evening News, Demetri Mitchell, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Ethan Hamilton, Dion McGhee, Largie Ramazani, George Tanner, Aidan Barlow, Kieran O’Hara and Alex Fojticek will all leave Old Trafford at the end of June.

However, there is one notable absentee from the list. Angel Gomes was not included and this could lead to lots of gossip on social media. The wonderkid, who has been linked with Chelsea in recent months, is also out of contract next week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that a deal is “not too far away” earlier this month, despite the fact that Man United have been unable to agree terms with Gomes so far, as his representatives were reportedly ‘underwhelmed’ by the club’s initial offer.

Last month, the Premier League revealed that clubs will be allowed to offer extensions to players with contracts expiring in June. United are determined to keep a hold of the 19-year-old and have submitted a new long-term deal to his agents.

The transfer saga has dragged on for a long time now, amid interest from the Blues and Barcelona. Although Barca were interested in signing the teenager, they had no plans of giving him first-team football, which is understood to have disappointed the youngster.

While this is purely speculation, the fact of the matter remains that Gomes is still a United player. Even if negotiations run down to the 11th hour, no news is good news at this stage in the game.

Everton: Fans slam Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s miss v Sheffield United

Plenty of Everton fans slammed Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he missed a good chance to put the Merseyside club in front in their Premier League game versus Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.

The striker only managed to hit the post just before half-time which caused some members of the Goodison Park faithful to question his finishing ability on Twitter.

Luckily for Calvert-Lewin, his teammate Richarlison scored right after the whistle blew for the second half, which turned out to be the only goal of the match as Carlo Ancelotti’s men ran out 1-0 winners at Bramall Lane.

The £21.6m-valued man did not enjoy the best of games anyway against his former team, registering just one shot on target and no successful dribbles, according to Sofascore.

Calvert-Lewin also only managed a mere 23 touches of the ball, playing no key passes and achieving a relatively low 69% passing accuracy, earning him just a 6.4 rating, the lowest out of all of his teammates, as per the website.

These EFC supporters slammed the 23-year old as they thought that the Englishman could do better with his chance:

Chelsea: Fans cannot wait to see Timo Werner in action as Instagram post emerges

Newest Chelsea signing Timo Werner has been snapped during his first group training session with the rest of the first team.

The German is Frank Lampard’s second signing of the summer and has finally joined fellow new recruit Hakim Ziyech at Cobham. Werner makes his move to the west London outfit after spending his entire career in the Bundesliga. Undoubtedly, the Premier League should be an exciting challenge for both Werner to take on and fans to watch.

The

/CDMSsLSJVnn/?utm_source=ig_embed”>official Chelsea Instagram account has posted two photos of the 24-year-old in action on the training pitch. Many fans can hardly contain their excitement and have flooded the comments with positive messages for their new striker.

Werner agreed terms with Chelsea after months of speculation linking him to a move to rivals Liverpool. In a shock twist, he put pen to paper for the Blues in a £47.5m transfer to the capital (via Goal.com).

After an impressive end to the season by Olivier Giroud, and Tammy Abraham also netting 15 Premier League goals, the fight for a spot in the starting lineup will be fierce. Werner looks set to be the centre of attention after his blistering 2019/20 campaign with RB Leipzig in which he scored 28 goals in the Bundesliga to see him finish only behind top scorer Robert Lewandowski for the season (via BBC Sport).

Some fans have also expressed their excitement to see Werner link up with in-form winger Christian Pulisic. The former Bundesliga men could create a stunning partnership up front for Chelsea in attack next season.

It’s unlikely that the 24-year-old will be the Blues’ last signing of the summer, as they continue to circle for further high-profile names to bolster their squad.

Sunderland: Charlie Goode responds to latest transfer rumours

Sunderland target Charlie Goode has responded to the latest transfer rumours about his future and where he will play next season.

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson is desperate to bolster his squad ahead of next season having finished eighth in the League One table, missing out on promotion for a second successive year.

As the pressure mounts on Parkinson, the 52-year-old coach has already sealed the double signing of Bailey Wright and Aiden O’Brien.

Following those deals, interest in Goode has emerged after the defender had an impressive season with Northampton Town.

The Cobblers captain led his team to promotion from League Two last month via the play-off final and those performances prompted transfer interest from a whole host of Championship clubs, with Sky Sports‘ northeast correspondent Keith Downie reporting the news.

With interest starting to develop in the £1m-valued defender, QPR seemed to have won the race earlier this week, judging by a claim from football columnist and agent Michael Vennerholm.

However, Goode has discussed his future and seemingly rubbished that report, telling Northampton Chronicle: “My focus is on the pitch, (The rumours are) something I’m aware of but at the end of the day I play for Northampton and that won’t change until my last day at the club.

“My focus is as normal and I’m just looking forward to the new season. I’ve loved every minute I’ve had at this club.”

“I came here to get promoted last season and I’ve helped us achieve that – but it doesn’t stop now.”

Whilst the comments made by Goode offer hope that the reported move to QPR is far from a done deal, he still seems keen to ply his trade with Northampton.

Of course, a lucrative contract offer could tempt him to leave, but it remains to be seen if a summer transfer window move to Sunderland will materialise.

Leeds news: Bielsa still chasing Lyanco but would have to table £13.4m

Leeds United have been chasing Ben White for the entirety of the ongoing summer transfer window. Of course, the young defender has been an incredible asset for Marcelo Bielsa during their push for Premier League football so this doesn’t exactly come as a big surprise.

But it also means that Brighton and Hove Albion are unwilling to part with their jewel and have already turned down three offers from the Whites. Now, as it seems, Bielsa is slowly but surely coming to the realisation that White remains a distant dream he simply can’t acquire.

There are, however, alternatives on the table. According to a printed version of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Leeds United are among the teams mentioned as interested in Torino’s defender, Lyanco.

The likes of PSV Eindhoven and Bologna are also seemingly in the race and Sporting CP have even tabled their first bid to the Italian outfit. This was reported by Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) as the newspaper reveals they offered around €6m (£5.3m) + 50% of the next transfer but that wasn’t good enough.

Torino apparently want around €12m (£10.7m) + €3m (£2.7m) in bonuses for a total of £13.4m. This would then be the figure Leeds would have to table as well if they really want to land the 23-year-old defender.

The Brazilian seems to be in high demand and Bielsa will have to roll up his sleeves to get him.

Verdict

Lyanco is obviously not White but he could be a cheaper alternative to the Brighton defender. Of course, the Brazilian can still surprise everyone with his quality and since Leeds do want some defensive reinforcements, he could indeed be the answer they are looking for.

Their chase of White has now seemingly hit a dead end with the Seagulls refusing to part ways with their prized asset.

Aston Villa target Florian Thauvin would add plenty of goals

Aston Villa have been linked to multiple wingers this summer, but none make more sense than Marseille’s Florian Thauvin…

What’s the word?

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Midlands outfit have entered the race to land the 27-year-old alongside Premier League rivals Leicester City.

It is claimed that Serie A outfit Atalanta are prepared to offer the Frenchman a five-year contract and they could well be the front-runners with the guarantee of Champions League football.

There is also a belief that Marseille would accept just €15m (£13.5m) for Thauvin.

Goal-hungry attacker

Villa could land themselves an absolute bargain with the only downside being his lack of game time in the past year – the 2018 World Cup winner was limited to just two appearances last season before Ligue 1 abandoned the final ten matches due to the pandemic.

Aside from this campaign, Thauvin has been an absolute talisman for Marseille, notching no fewer than 15 goals in the league in the three seasons prior.

During the 2017/18 campaign, the 27-year-old provided 25 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, averaging 3 dribbles, 2.7 shots and 1.8 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

Thauvin, who is still valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, has been likened to fellow countryman Franck Ribery due to their similar styles of football.

“Toulouse coach Alain Casanova called him “a player in the image of Franck Ribéry … someone who is able to disrupt any opponent, someone very dangerous when he picks up speed. Very dangerous indeed.”

Whilst it didn’t work out for him at Newcastle several years ago, he’s clearly gone on to develop into a lethal attacker at the highest level and should absolutely be given a second chance in the Premier League if Johan Lange can tempt him to Villa Park.

The “left-footer with fine acceleration and jaw-dropping close control” would be a statement and a half on the rest of the PL, that’s for sure.

AND in other news, Villa’s move for PL starlet would be shades of Tammy Abraham

Celtic should reignite interest in Ryan Sessegnon to solve left-back woes

Celtic could soon have the solution to their left-back problems, they’ll just have to go back in for one of their reported targets…

What’s the word?

Last month, The Athletic claimed that the Scottish champions were one of several teams courting Spurs starlet Ryan Sessegnon over a potential loan switch this summer.

Although, at the time, it was thought that Jose Mourinho would use him this season.

However, it appears that things have changed with the north Londoners set to sign left-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid this week, meaning the 20-year-old could now depart temporarily, as per the Daily Mail.

Reignite the fire

It’s now time for Neil Lennon to do exactly that as he’s evidently in the market for a new left-sided option following the controversial exit of Boli Bolingoli.

The Bhoys have been linked to Charlton youngster Alfie Doughty but have had two bids already knocked back for him this summer, so perhaps they should take a look at Sessegnon instead.

We’re yet to see the true potential of the young prospect, who can also play as a winger, and the SPFL could prove to be the perfect breeding ground after the success of Virgil Van Dijk and Kieran Tierney in the Premier League.

Sessegnon has drawn comparisons to Gareth Bale as well as Raheem Sterling in the past and although we’re yet to see it fully, we’ve spotted glimpses just like when he bagged against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last term.

The versatile £22.5m-rated youngster was labelled a “big, big talent” by ex-Fulham teammate Stefan Johansen, who also tipped him to become “one of the world’s best” in his position.

It certainly could prove to be a win-win for both the Hoops and Spurs if they can come to an agreement. Greg Taylor and Moi Elyounoussi are good, but Sessegnon could bring shades of Patrick Roberts back to Celtic Park.

Nick Hammond must push for this move.

West Ham must target Arsenal’s Calum Chambers on Deadline Day

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers would be the perfect Deadline Day alternative to Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car after West Ham United failed in a late summer swoop.

What’s the word?

According to The Guardian, Caleta-Car has snubbed the chance of moving to the London Stadium after making clear that his intentions are to remain with Marseille and compete in the Champions League this season.

West Ham had attempted to sign the 24-year-old as David Moyes continues his search for a new centre-half, having identified the position as one of great need approaching Monday’s 11pm deadline.

The Irons are said to have lodged a bid worth close to £20million for Marseille’s Croatia international, although reports by The Sun suggested West Ham could offer as much as £25m while tabling a £150,000-per-week contract.

Attentions in east London are now expected to turn elsewhere with cheaper options such as Watford’s Craig Dawson a potential loan option. Arsenal’s Chambers and Swansea City’s Joe Rodon are also on the table having considered the benefits of such moves.

Chambers the perfect alternative

Having been dealt yet another blow in their search of a new centre-half by Caleta-Car having no desire to leave Marseille and Burnley refusing all offers for James Tarkowski, West Ham would be wise to see Chambers as the perfect alternative.

Arsenal have been actively looking to sell the 25-year-old this summer after opting to retain Rob Holding amid interest from Newcastle United, with prior reports by TEAMtalk suggesting the Gunners value Chambers at just £12m despite curiosity from Fulham, Leeds, the Toon and Hammers.

That would appear a relatively low fee for a player who has featured 21 times in the Europa League, won an FA Cup, earned 139 Premier League appearances and endured all of the emotions connected with relegation – something West Ham will be adamant of avoiding after last season’s close shave.

Chambers is also a player capable of holding down duties in midfield and at right-back as well as in his natural centre-half role, while offering a threat at both ends of the pitch with two top-flight strikes to his name in each position.

He is also more than comfortable in possession having averaged 78.5 touches per Premier League appearance last season, with which he recorded 46.9 accurate passes having misplaced just 10% of efforts made in his own half, per SofaScore. Chambers also registered 1.1 interceptions, 1.9 tackles and 2.9 clearances, while winning 5.5 duels and playing 0.5 key balls for four big chances over the 2019/20 campaign.

AND in other news, West Ham United are considering a late move to sign a Premier League player who recorded just 0.8 key balls a game in 2019/20

GSB could regret late West Ham deal for Bournemouth’s Steve Cook

David Gold and David Sullivan’s fraught start to the season could get even worse if the West Ham United ownership were to land David Moyes’ new defensive target, AFC Bournemouth’s Steve Cook.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Star, Moyes sees Cook as a late alternative to Chelsea ace Fikayo Tomori after the England international snubbed a Deadline Day deal to join the Hammers on loan with just ten minutes left of the window.

Tomori backed out of what seemed an agreed-upon season-long deal at 22:50 on Monday night to stay and fight for his place under Frank Lampard, leaving Moyes without a new centre-half having courted one all summer.

West Ham can still shop in the Championship with the domestic window remaining open until October 16, and are understood to be exploring whether or not a deal can be struck for Cook or Watford’s Craig Dawson.

Cook started 28 of his 29 Premier League appearances as Bournemouth were relegated from the top-flight last season, in which he helped Eddie Howe’s side to three clean sheets and with one goal thanks to an average 0.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 5.2 clearances, 4.0 aerial duels won, 34.7 accurate passes and 55.9 touches, per SofaScore.

It is thought the Irons still have a budget of around £30million to work with, and have also been linked with a £10m move for Cherries forward Joshua King following Felipe Anderson’s departure for FC Porto on a temporary deal.

A signing GSB could regret

While Moyes is said to favour Cook or Dawson, the Irons ownership of Gold and Sullivan may be wise to favour Dawson and hold talks with Watford in their search of the Scottish coach’s new centre-half.

Gold, Sullivan and Karren Brady have already come under immense backlash from fans this summer with the return of GSB Out protestors at the Newcastle United match, while Trevor Sinclair also laid on more pressure over the lack of signings last month following Grady Diangana’s transfer to West Bromwich Albion.

Key players like Mark Noble likewise hit out at the club’s decision to sell Diangana, with Mr. West Ham tweeting: “As captain of this football club I’m gutted, angry and sad that Grady has left, great kid with a great future!!!!!”

GSB could be in for more of the same somewhere in the future if Cook is signed, as the £45,000-per-week defender is also not one who is afraid to speak their mind.

Cook frustrated former Bournemouth boss Howe earlier in the year when he told BBC Radio Solent, via the Bournemouth Echo, that the Cherries’ performance in defeat to Newcastle was “embarrassing” and that “we are men in the dressing room but played like kids.”

While Cook’s comments were not on the Cherries’ ownership, GSB may fear the 29-year-old turning his anger towards them if he joins and at some point feels similar dismay to Noble in the direction Gold, Sullivan and Brady are taking the Hammers.

AND in other news, West Ham have been dealt a setback in the club’s efforts to land the missing spark of David Moyes’ midfield.

Rangers must keep James Tavernier after Celtic masterclass

Glasgow Rangers ran riot over Celtic at Parkhead on Saturday to move four points clear of their Old Firm rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Steven Gerrard’s side dominated the derby from start to finish to record a 2-0 win at Celtic Park, and they are currently enjoying a 14-game unbeaten streak as a result – dating back to the 1-0 win away at Aberdeen – meaning they are early favourites to reclaim the title.

The Light Blues took an early lead when Connor Goldson headed them in front and the centre-back doubled the lead after the restart. But one player stood out from the rest.

James Tavernier put in a performance to remember as Rangers romped to victory over their arch-rivals. It was announced last month that the club captain had been named Premiership Player of the Month after scoring three goals in September.

And Tavernier certainly lived up to pre-match expectations as he ran up and down the flank with abandon, combining with Brandon Barker and Ryan Kent on multiple occasions.

Per SofaScore, the 28-year-old showed exactly what he has to offer, as he won 66% of his aerials duels whilst he supplied the assist for the opening goal and provided one key pass, as well as made two clearances, two tackles and one interception. A look at his heatmap shows the workhorse put in a shift with acres of space down the right wing.

As is often the case, a workmanlike performance can often go unnoticed, especially when a player like Goldson steals the limelight. But his contributions cannot be ignored, especially when you consider the fact that his sublime free kick enabled his teammate to open the scoring after just eight minutes on the clock.

Moreover, Celtic failed to muster a single shot on target, which speaks volumes. Whilst Neil Lennon’s side may argue that they were without Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie, it’s hard to deny the fact that they were outclassed in almost every area of the pitch.

It’s perhaps hardly surprising that Tavernier attracted interest from West Ham in the summer. One thing is for sure, the Gers must keep the £4.5m-rated ace at all costs, as it is highly unlikely that he will be short of suitors in the winter transfer window.

AND in other news, Glasgow Rangers must keep Glen Kamara at all costs after Pukki comments…
